Johannesburg - An interdict against the Congress of South African Students (Cosas) has been obtained by the Western Cape Education, the government department said on Saturday.

Spokesperson Bronagh Casey said in a statement that the interdict was granted on Friday night and it restrained Cosas from gathering or causing a gathering within 300m of any examination centre.

The interdict comes after Education MEC Donald Grant strongly condemned the disruption of a matric examination centre at Thembelihle High School in Khayelitsha on Friday.

The interdict restrains Cosas from disrupting any educational activity at examination centres, intimidating or attacking any pupilr, educator or invigilator at the facilities.

It further restrains the student body from preventing learners from writing their examinations and causing any damage to property at examination centres.
