Winnie 'touched' to receive centenary torch

2012-06-30 16:33

Johannesburg - Winnie Madikizela-Mandela accepted the ANC centenary torch at her home in Orlando West, Soweto, on Saturday afternoon.

Madikizela-Mandela, affectionately known as Mama, said she was "so touched" to receive the flame.

Like the flame, the African National Congress had "travelled a long way to be here".

She said 2012 was a very important year because it was the 100 year anniversary of the party and the 60th anniversary of the defiance campaign which "got us to where we are today".

Madikizela-Mandela warned members not to allow the party to disintegrate.

She encouraged ANC members to make sure the party ruled forever.

She concluded her speech with her trademark salute of "Amandla!" (power).

Supporters and members of the provincial executive council responded rapturously: "Awethu!" (people).

The torch was delivered to Madikizela-Mandela's home just before 2pm by an ANC cavalcade accompanied by a fleet of "Sopranos" motorcyclists, wearing leather jackets bearing their logo of a stylised South African flag, Tshwane Metro police and police.

A solemn procession of uMkhonto we Sizwe veterans from Tshwane delivered the flame.

The torch arrived in Gauteng on June 1 after being received by former President Nelson Mandela at his home in Qunu in the Eastern Cape.

After its month in Gauteng, the torch would be sent to Limpopo to continue its journey, which started in Mangaung, in the Free State, in January.

      JaredVN - 2012-06-30 17:46

Winnie is the perfect example of the ANC cadre: Violent, ugly, criminal, stupid, corrupt, repulsive, name the negative trait, this loathsome piece of scum is it.

      Mark - 2012-06-30 17:59

      Doing what she did best...

      Amandlawhereto - 2012-06-30 18:02

Exactly Bennie, I was also excited by the headline, "Winnie torched.......litre of petrol and some tyres would be justice!

      gareth.vorster.9 - 2012-06-30 18:02

How does Stompie feel about this? Reward murderers.

      Jellyarse - 2012-06-30 19:46

Maybe she thought it was a firelighter for necklaces! What an insult - a murderess being honoured!

  • smili.fication - 2012-06-30 16:38

That torch has been extinguished by aid's denial ism, corruption, nepotism, murder, rape, disrespect for human rights.... and the only reason that torch is still smoking is because of propaganda, stupidity, racism and greed...

      gieljam.gomtor - 2012-06-30 16:44

Had it not been for all these "brave deeds" she would not have even been noticed.

      smili.fication - 2012-06-30 16:49

Oh and Winnie my dear: fraud, murder, kidnapping, corruption. You are a disgusting piece of work. You and your crazy ANC condom comrades desrve to be hung.

      Digger - 2012-06-30 23:51

  • Gregory Jurgens - 2012-06-30 16:39

  • fred.fraser.12 - 2012-06-30 16:40

  • indianajohn - 2012-06-30 16:42

Well, looking at the ANC of today, it's only right that the torch be carried by thieves and murderers.

  • jaysonpaul.beckwith - 2012-06-30 16:50

They only torch she should receive is one that works with Duracell batteries,,then she could go look for her conscience...

Yep, she is 'touched'... 'touched' in the head... sick woman!!!

  • Mark - 2012-06-30 17:33

This woman should not be allowed within two meters of a burning flame - unless it's the fire that she is burned at the stake with. Horrible old witch.

  • anthony.okelly.98 - 2012-06-30 17:41

B it insults the revolution continues n we are not going to retreat. I always say if it comes to push war will settle these n we all no that ur only hope is the international community. Most of guys here are so poor to emigrate unlike some of us who can afford but because these is our land we choose not to.

      Jellyarse - 2012-06-30 20:15

Mathibela - It's racist cu*ts like you that will destroy this country! Yes, war would settle this - half your comrades wouldn't know which end of a gun to point at the enemy and the other half would break them. Yes, your type would be first in our sights so start praying that your filthy mouth gets shut before someone does it for you.

      Jellyarse - 2012-06-30 20:18

and if you run the country like you run your airline or taxi fleet (Facebook - COO (SANTACO Airline)) - God help us all - Tos*ser!

      smili.fication - 2012-06-30 21:50

Mathibela - The only place you would be able to emigrate to is Zimbabwe... I LOLOL, do you think being a cr&p taxi driver is a wanted skill in other countries? You are such an idiot.... go and play on Zuma's spear. FYI -taxi drivers like you have killed so many people that you also belong in Jail with that old b&*ch.
