Zille to court over Malema 'defamation'

2012-04-09 21:19

Johannesburg - Lawyers for Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille will approach to Cape High Court on Tuesday in a bid to speed up a defamation case against ANC Youth League president Julius Malema.

"It's related to case from two-and-a-half years ago of a defamation case against Julius Malema... among others," her spokesperson Jordan Hill-Lewis said on Monday.

He said the actual merits of the case would not be heard, but it was a bid by Zille - in her personal capacity - to force Malema to submit court papers.

"It's taken a long time to come to court because the respondents in the case have refused to file their responding papers... [It's a move] to compel them to respond.

"If they still don't then the case proceeds without them," he said.

The matter relates to comments including that Zille had concubines in Cabinet.

there is a democracy view in africa that woman is not equal to men. woman is far stronger than men. evident is what this iron lady will prove, once and for all.

      appietrader - 2012-04-10 10:38

The lady must bankrupt him and his pals to teach them a lesson. Throwing insults at a educated and respected individual from these corrupted (thieving) idiots with their gutter like manners. Trust the courts will deal with them in a appropriate way!!

I still say that news24 is a true reflection of SA, there are some out racist in this forum (all sides of the race spectrum), theres people who are truly intelligent and yet super ignorant in the assessment of other races (stil talking about all races), theres people who whine about everything and anything, theres some truly ignorant and hypocrital folks with double standards and then theres the glorious open minded people who think progressively in all situations (a breed of people that is amazingly growing even with a decline in education standards). We are truly a rainbow nation, not just in race but also in characters. I love my country and wouldnt move for anything.

Very well said, couldn't have said it better myself. good form :)

  • farmfreund - 2012-04-10 01:46

people listen to yourselfs, first 30% of the country supports Zille, Malema does not have that kind of support, and democracy means people vote for their prefered party, they sit around a table and discuss problems the country is facing, working together towards a better system, democracy does not mean insulting each other , burning schools, killing each other, racial attacs, we all have the same problems why not stand together and fight for the better of the country, there is space for everybody in this country,

      Arsene - 2012-04-10 03:12

      30%, pfff, never.

      marc.boya1 - 2012-04-10 06:49

But Malema support has never been tested so its unfair to compare the two. And i thought people support the DA and not an individual.

      Marion - 2012-04-10 09:53

@marc - and I thought that the youth support the ANCYL not an individual.

      farmfreund - 2012-04-10 11:04

marc.boya1 - Malema support was tested in the elections in Limpopo, he came secound last in his home province, remeber ? he was on place 18 out of 20 ,

      HugoMabasa - 2012-04-11 17:31

      30% too ambitious

  • brionyl.french - 2012-04-10 05:20

ust keep convicting this idiot... then he will spend a long time in prison.

  • Siya - 2012-04-10 06:31

Its been a long time coming, that swine needs to be thought a lesson.\r\nHe thinks he owns this country..sies.

      Uzziphathele - 2012-04-10 07:28

Siya its all about Zille not malema and u swearing now everyone deserve respect

      Marion - 2012-04-10 10:02

@Uzziphathele - how can it be all about Zille and not Malema? Zille would not have laid charges of defamation if Malema had not tried to score points by insulting her. Do you recall him and his cronies doing this: "They called her a “racist girl” who appointed an “all male cabinet of useless people, the majority of whom are her boyfriends and concubines so that she can continue to sleep around with them”.? Don't you recall any of the other insults? This is about Malema.

  • Ron - 2012-04-10 07:43

Whatever one's personal feelings for Zille, she has an excellent case against Malema. You don't insinuate immorality and think you can get away with it... that's K-thinking!

      HugoMabasa - 2012-04-11 17:32

      brilliant comment.I like the k-thing part.You sound so cool.come 2014!

  • Nigel - 2012-04-10 08:03

his stolen R52 M will soon be spent on lawyers, then he will be back in bankrupt Limpopo herding his cow, poor & ignorant. He will not be the "Prince of the Poor" as some dumb sheep claimed, but just plain poor.

  • Gcwabe.KaMavovo - 2012-04-10 09:54

What is Helen hoping to get out of this defamation lawsuit? What it's doing is that it's giving Malema more media coverage. The clown is dead and buried, and really should be ignored.

      Azande - 2012-04-10 11:13

I think its a right move. Malema will learn to respect and not just throw to others whatever name he dreamed of in his "mansion". As soon as he gets many lawsuits, he will realise that this country is not ruled by tenders, education counts.

  • sxasa - 2012-04-10 11:55

Zille should take all that energy she has on changing western cape nt on fighting malema we are struggling and she promise people heaven n earth. Even white people were corrupt during apartheid nw just because its a black man she is wearing boxing cloves or does she want malema 2 be her puppet jst like that black stupid gal?

  • Pee - 2012-04-10 15:05
