Zille will be challenged in 2014

2012-11-11 10:06

Johannesburg - DA leader Helen Zille is likely to be challenged for the top spot at her party's next elective congress in two years, the Sunday Times reports.

"I really do think there will be a challenge at the next congress because we believe that party leadership should be changed," former DA parliamentary leader Athol Trollip was quoted by the paper as saying.

Zille is unopposed for her position at the Democratic Alliance's elective conference later this month. She could not expect the same courtesy at the next conference, Trollip said.

"I think Helen Zille was not challenged now because she has done very well and we need her to continue that momentum into 2014. But I think by 2014... there will be a strong leadership challenge in our party," he was quoted as saying.

Trollip was replaced as DA parliamentary leader by Lindiwe Mazibuko.

it does not matter whos incharge of the DA..as long as they have the same dream,vision,believes...im a proud DA SUPPORTER!!!

      LutherKingsley - 2012-11-11 11:54

kolobe.mzansi.7, Isn't it ironic, in the 1992 referendum majority of whites voted for the disbanding of apartheid. Currently the majority of whites vote DA and they have absolutely no problem with the black leaders within the DA as long as the same discipline, vision and overall good ethics are preserved. You are basically saying that white leaders are not good enough and you will only vote for black leaders... for your information, who has the best track record of leadership in the world, African or Western leaders? Do you know how many people in the USA admitted that they voted for Barack Obama because his black (actually Coloured) and not because he's the best leader, same way you guys will never vote for a white leader even if that leader is a 1000 better than your black leader... and that is pure stupidity from your side, you keep voting these incompetent criminal black leaders into power and then you suffer the consequences. If you are not a racist why do you choose leaders based on skin colour and not merits.

      storm.trooper.125 - 2012-11-11 12:02

KOLOBE so u reckon we mus vote anc corrupt, fraud, beyond bad service delivery, internal fighting(throwing chairs, stabbing wit bottle neck, shooting, betray each other..threatening members)we must vote anc while the president having r243bln complex and his supporters lives in shacks??? OK U CONVINCE ME..I WIL VOTE ANC

      BulletProof. - 2012-11-11 12:09

Yes,by this time we going to clean forever the corrupt cadres of this cANCer!!!

      malcolm.james.macleod - 2012-11-11 12:48

@Kolobe - I don't care if the DA ends up having 100% black leadership as long as they do their job properly. Perhaps it is time you consider applying the same logic, oh wait you can't because you are a racist.

      storm.trooper.125 - 2012-11-11 13:32

BONGANI...ofcoz u never heard about the DA visions..COZ U NOT INTERSTED.. bcoz ur anc just remind u week in week out about the struggle..dont frget the pain..anc can only show a handful what they done good..unfortunatly BAD cloud the smal good achievemnets..are u familiar with the phrase " BRAIN DRAIN"? thats what the anc became in the last few yrs..cannot create new economy and job creation..when u brain drain and u greedy about money..u will do corruption and fraud!! DOES IT MATTER IF A PARTY IS JUS BLACK OR WHITE??? the biggest stupidy of black ppl like urself is when u say things like we will never vote for a white party..for white ppl..ITS NOT ABOUT WHITE OR BLACK..ITS NOT ABOUT WHAT RACE IS THE CEO OF A COMPANY..what race is the government of a country..its about doing the job right..

  • surfing.sam.9 - 2012-11-11 10:12

Maybe they could get Thuli in, I hope this conference is just before the elections, if the DA gets a brilliant person like Thuli in just before the elections I think a few votes could be slung to the DA side instead of the anc's.

      TSR01 - 2012-11-11 12:03

"Trollip was replaced as DA parliamentary leader by Lindiwe Mazibuko." I wonder why he was replaced if he is the best man! Pointless comment, DubulaAmanzi.

      storm.trooper.125 - 2012-11-11 12:05

U SAY DOWN ZILLE?? is it bcoz she show how corrupt..the anc is?? evil never made something good..the devil was a liar from the beginning..

      jeremy.forbes.1293 - 2012-11-11 13:12

The DA needs a high quality black leader in order for it to become a credible alternative to the ANC. Mazibuko would do very well. The reality is that most black SAFFAS would be seriously put off voting for the DA if HZ remains as leader. I salute her courage and strategic nous but at this time in our history we need a black leader with intelligence, competence, strong communication skills, anti-corruption and just general alround credibility. Mazibuko has all of this and she is a woman, she scares the ANC completely, she may well turn out to be an extremely attractive proposition to black women. On the other hand, if Thuli is available that would be fantastic.

      indianajohn - 2012-11-11 16:45

DubulaAmanzi: for the millionth time, what is it with this "membership" obsession of yours? I don't understand why political parties need card-carrying "members". It means absolutely nothing! You guys love telling us about your membership figures, but what on earth does it achieve? Nothing! VOTES are what count! It's not a football club. You make it sound like it's some sort of privilege to be a member. It isn't. I can vote ANC tomorrow if I wanted to (if I was completely mad) and that would make me an ANC supporter. I don't need to be a damn "member".

      jmlongwe - 2012-11-12 22:11

Honestly speaking, for as long as the DA has policy that when you go through, you obviously know that will get rid of policies such as AA, then they will lose the educated black vote. It is obvious that they dont accept what the past has done to the country. Bring on the thumbs down all you who didnt understand me

      jmlongwe - 2012-11-12 22:13

...and yes i know AA affects output in a way, but the world is not perfect. Wrongs of the past will affect the future. It is written.

  • bless.boswell - 2012-11-11 10:32

I'm sure Zille will welcome a challenge from within. It would be an affirmation of the growth and progress she has brought to the table. It would be a proud day for her to hand the reins over to someone that has grown and flourished under her guidance. Viva Helen Zilla ... Viva DA.

  • tony.naidoo - 2012-11-11 10:33

The DA has nothing to do with black OR white ideals. It is a party representative of people who have a combination of political conscience and a high moral ground. Leaders don't dictate policy, they promote the party manifesto. In that sense, Zille's led by example! Can't say the same for the anc!

      terrylee.heuer - 2012-11-11 13:19

Totally agree with you as far as I'm concerned the ANC is not democratic as they intimidate one another and fight amongst and even kill one another for power they heading towards communism!!! The DA is a true democratic party and stand for the people if only the masses could see that!!!

  • Lekgwakgwa - 2012-11-11 10:36

I thank Helen is doing very well no one can challenge her the campaign of paty and results of election is the one can chalenge her good luck for Benoni party election

  • gary.desousa.7 - 2012-11-11 10:42

The DA will grow stronger whoever is the leader. Its their policies, vision and plain good work they do that will grow them. All these comments about "white" just shows how racist those people still are and moronic in their thoughts. South Africa is for all not just some blacks who happen to be around still.

  • annelise.vanderschyff - 2012-11-11 10:43

    Support da all the way!!!!!

      gail.hayesbean - 2012-11-11 11:45

No it's because she follows the manifesto of the DA which is more than Zuma is doing with the ANC manifesto. There are visions and then there are delusions. You obviously suffer from the latter and need medicating because delusions lead to failure.

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-11-11 13:53

DubulaAmanzi and your vision is of a glorious mansion paid by the taxpayers?. Give me a break, one can take only so much idiocy for one day.

  • robynne.els.1 - 2012-11-11 10:48

That's great! If there was never a challenge then there is no reason to try be better! Zille is an incredible leader and I'm sure she will welcome a challenge as she is not selfishly trying to stay in power

  • rory.n.price - 2012-11-11 11:00

Tragic to see how in SA they would rather vote for a rapist and corrupt officials rather than vote for a white, yet in America they have a black President, and no he does not shower once he raped his victim, vote for the person or persons that will get SA out of its mess, sorry to say that is not the ANC,

      Simthembile Zembe - 2012-11-12 18:47

We have a long way to go. I think if we want achieve better, we should refrain from throwing out insults here and come up with a solution. This is the future of our children, not for a few individuals. Lets vote with our heads ,not hearts. Besides its okay if the DA changes leadership. That shows democracy within the organisation.

  • LiveYourOwnLife - 2012-11-11 11:15

      morris.khunou - 2012-11-12 15:27

What are you reacting to Live? Havent said anything above! Did you smoke something or from a bad dread stone thrower! No need to mention Idiot is another descriptive for any black person who holds a different view! it is a completely waste of time to mention it. You can just put three dots and I can write for you what you wanted to say! Stop sounding like a parrot like many here!

  • sello.r.molefe - 2012-11-11 11:40

Well for matter of principle a challenger provides different perspective and such move is welcome.. Nothin against Zille but competition is welcome or the party will die

  • matshane.seleko - 2012-11-11 11:40

  • Suzanne Viljoen - 2012-11-11 11:51

SO you mean that they only burn and throw stones in Western Cape?

  • Adil Smit - 2012-11-11 11:55

Mr Trollip - a bit of sour grapes?

      Gerrie Willemse - 2013-07-01 00:00

Do u know Athol Trollip? If not keep ur comment to yourself

  • matusowsky - 2012-11-11 12:02

Unlike in the ANC, the DA party welcomes it when they are challenged for their position. It shows democracy at work. It lets the parties individuals know how well they are doing in their position and if other delegates agree with them. I doubt she'd lose her position in 2014 and definitely not to Athol. But in the ANC... They call it factionism or whatever. They take it as an attack on their integrity and what not if they are challenged from within the party. This is why the ANC is failing. All members are expected to support their leader regardless of the differences in ideology they may have. Not so in the DA!

      morris.khunou - 2012-11-12 15:34

Not much cake in the DA Mike. Thats the difference. A lot of white people during 1994 rightfully said they give ANC gov 10 years it will experience infightings because of money. There is no much to fight for in the DA at the moment as they control very little resources.

  • sean.redmond3 - 2012-11-11 12:04

I think Mrs Zilla should take a break. (At least handover to someone who can dance:))

      ronald.stilianou - 2012-11-11 13:02

Why must someone dance? ,this is the only country where it is expected from a leader to behave like a vibrating turd on a stage. You don't see Obama doing that and don't give me that culture crap, it's ridiculous , and by the same token, Zuma said that drinking rotten beer out of a plascon tin is part of his culture, I doubt that plascon were supplying paint in tins in shaka's days.

      sango.jika - 2012-11-11 13:35

ronald if Zuma decide to dance on stage it has nothing to do with culture but personal choice its not a must.

      morris.khunou - 2012-11-12 15:42

@ ronald. vibrating turd, hahahaa!!! you guys are experts when coming to insults! Is there a university that offers a course on insults in SA, it must be havily sposored. It reminds me of a compulsory military training where many were indocrinated and hatred against black instilled

  • Erna - 2012-11-11 12:17

Nothing wrong with that. If there is someone who can do the job equally well, by all means. And I am sure Helen Zille will agree. Unlike the anc, which has no-one that stands out as a suitable leader, the DA has more than one.

      manqoba.zulu.54 - 2012-11-11 12:21

In the ANC we have Ramaphosa, Galima, Blade, Radebe Sakhi, name 5 possible candidates in the DA you won't cos you don't even know them : you are just aguing cos you know you wony be challenged: DA is a one man show

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-11-11 14:03

Mangoba.zulu.54. Not one of those you mentioned are leadership material. Or do you prefer a leader with poor qualities and a big bank account?.

  • theMichaelHawthorne - 2012-11-11 12:40

  • maverick.generators - 2012-11-11 13:02

Until the DA appoints a black person into leadership, forget about having a chance at ever ruling this country. However wrong this may be, a white person will never be elected to rule this country by the masses. There is too much stigma and stereotyping. So if the DA wants to move the next step up the political ladder, they need to get rid of the stigma that is associated with a white leadership. That being said I doubt it will ever happen, just as much as black people do not want to see a white leadership, whites will not want to see a black leader of the DA. Racism is still deeply entrenched in our society from both sides. And thats why the ANC keeps on holding to power and will continue to do so until there is a change in mindset, from both sides. 95% of South African voters are politically immature, from both sides of the racial divide. Whoever doesnt see this or blames the other race is prime example of this.

      storm.trooper.125 - 2012-11-11 13:36

      TRUE...

Really, who arw the racists here because DA supporters don't care who leads them as long as they good at it, unlike the anc who choose leaders on who they can best benefit from. Oh and they MUST be black.

      phahla.matwa - 2012-11-11 14:38

  • PointBlank - 2012-11-11 14:24

The comments below show how racist black people are. The DA choose leaders on merit, not who can make them rich. The DA don't care who leads them as long as they are good at it. The ANC choose only black and male. All the comments against Zille and DA is nothing more then shameful racism, ignorance and jealousy. Sorrowful actually.

      joy.clark.794628 - 2012-11-11 16:01

I agree with you completely, however, I also believe you are whistling in the wind. The mass of people in SA have a problem with brain power, they will still vote for the corrupt thieves who are ruining the country.

      amy.cele - 2012-11-11 18:10

Your initial statement that blacks are racist is in itself a racist comment. Blacks as a group in SA are not racist, whites as a group are not racist. Yet racism still exists among folks of all backgrounds as a result of years under a racist system of government. Though this is not surprising, it is indeed sad to see South Africa in such a poor state due to greed, corruption and continual racist sentiments in which one racial group continues to blame the other for the countries shortcomings and the failures of the government.

  • PointBlank - 2012-11-11 14:29

The ANC have only ever benn ruled by black males, becareful when pointing fingers shouting racist and derogatory statements. The DA is by FAR more multi racial then the ANC has or ever will be and the masses are brainwashed into believing otherwise... Shame. Must suck to not be able to think for yourself, the ANC have done well, like the NP, to poison the minds of their followers.

  • leko.dada1 - 2012-11-11 14:48

unlike JZ who sees even is mirror reflection as a threat to his grasp on the throne. Challenge is good, it makes the leader stronger, healthier Unlike in the ANC where the fattest most useless waste of space is in charge.

A challenge from within the party will be healthy, and Zille is gracious enough to be happy to hand over to someone who will continue her strong and correct rule. Now the ANC on the other hand - we will no doubt have them all holding on to power with ever fibre of their being. Zuma especially is not likely to let go of his hold on the state coffers. Zille is an excellent leader, a woman of character and integrity. If she were our president we would see a completely different, and much improved South Africa in six months. Unfortunately, the masses are still fed racial hatred at every opportunity and they will hang onto the ANC until there is no country left.

Seriously, when will politicians and their followers stop seeing color in everything? The ANC has been the ruling party since 1994, for 17 years now! Can you see any difference? NO!!! In fact, there are more homeless people (black, white, coloreds, indians etc), more people striking, more corruption, more fights over this is mine and that is yours! If you where born after 1985, you cannot complain against apartheid, because you were too little to understand! But you are too selfish and arrogant to take responsibility in your own hands and blame it on apartheid! Leaders should open their eyes and see that their fights are becoming their supporters fights and fights that are going no where! We are the future and it is going nowhere until you step up, take charge and stop blaming people for apartheid that aren't even alive anymore! Why should street names change, 1.5b spent on a road or a 240m house be renovate, while there is nothing being done to keep children in school or out of gangs or houses being built for blacks, whites, indians and coloreds! Wake the hell up, you arrogant bastards who still blame everything on apartheid!
