Zuma obsessed with re-election - Mazibuko

2012-11-23 14:31

Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma is only obsessed with being re-elected and has no interest in delivering on "transformative objectives", Democratic Alliance parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko said on Friday.

"The most successful leaders in office try to deliver on transformative objectives using transactional skills. Mr Zuma, uniquely among the world's democratic leaders, possesses neither skills set," she said.

"He has no conceptual engagement with any public policy problem, other than his all-consuming obsession with being re-elected."

Mazibuko was speaking at a Daily Maverick conference in Johannesburg. She said Zuma had failed to deliver what he was meant to.

"His supporters, both inside the ANC and outside, are aware of this."

She described 2012, in the words of journalist and author Malcolm Gladwell, as a "tipping point", where the political centre had slipped away from the ANC.

"The president and his government are beginning to suffer from what academics have described as the power curse," Mazibuko said.

"In the biblical story of David and Goliath, Goliath's superior advantages misled him into an inferior strategy and this led to his death. This story may sooner rather than later serve as a metaphor of how Mr Zuma's political dominance expired."

      Amen Lindiwe!!!!

      beverly.young3 - 2012-11-23 15:09

ha ha ha he has to stay in power as he needs the money!!! ha ha ha..FNB might kick him out of his home on tribal land, which belongs to someone, and then he will have move across the road to the pitiful shacks that surraound his palace. I simply cannot stop laughing at the headlines. Sorry....but you have to look at it through 'mus coloured glasses'...... On the other hand he could move in with the king? He would even notice the additional expense.

      beverly.young3 - 2012-11-24 08:01

Just a note: Yesterday I had an interesting chat, with a person, "who used to be in government".....strange slant to Zuma. He said, and I quote. "One must understand that Zuma ia ONLY the figurehead. He is run entirely by the power behind him, and in fact, has little knowledge of what goes on. These people list things for him, write his speeches, run his household etc etc." He went on: "The forthcoming elections in December are very tight...not even the normal 'powers' can decide who they want. They can see he has made a fool of himself,as sometimes he doesn't stick to the agenda. That is when his spin- doctors have to step in and try and correct the mess. He is an old man and although people like Sexwale is good, he is TOOO independent!" He went on in a similar vein for a while, and concluded, that trying to cover Zuma's behind, with the mess re the house etc, has had everyone in a flat spin!..... Just saying.....

      mart.botha - 2012-11-24 11:43

├Żaya188......would I be too far off the mark if I venture to offer that the power brokers behind the figurehead are so closely linked to international organised crime syndicates who are supported by Communist China, that there is only one way for South Africans with honorable intentions to go, and that is down. The Mad Max movies may lend some truth to our futures!

      beverly.young3 - 2012-11-24 14:27

@ derek penny and matekilo......there are, he confessed, 'associations' between power brokers and the Chinese, that he heard of....but nothing can be proved. He went on further to say, "not unlike the Botswana government"......whateva that means. Well I was in Botswana in Sept., and the Chinese are in there big time.

      thandiwe.ngema.71 - 2012-11-24 14:43

Mandela must be really unhappy with the ANC!!! When Mandela was president his speeches of non-racialism were played millions of times ALL OVER THE WORLD. Everybody thought SA was a place of hope, opportunity and non-racialism. How the ANC has sunk. Will the ANC ever produce another leader who is quoted all over the world? Will the ANC ever produce another leader who wins a Nobel prize? I doubt it!!! Blade Nzimande could be shortlisted (along with many other ANC "leaders") for a Nobel prize for division! How South Africa has fallen since the days of Madiba!

  • camp.j - 2012-11-23 14:35

Yup he's so obsessed with re election that he has allowed the country, he governs, to burn. South Africans deserve better!

  • virginia.barker.37 - 2012-11-23 14:39

I think we should implement an electronic voting system whereby each person votes for the President of the country and not a handful of corrupt politicians deciding for us. If this was the case Mr Zuma would have been ousted long ago!

      JanGrimbeek - 2012-11-23 14:51

No need to develop a new system, they could adapt and use the LOTTO system, its already all over the country available and theres a lot of internet sites where you can place your bets.

      beertjie.peertjie - 2012-11-23 15:10

That may also prove to be dangerous. A lot of knobs may end up voting for populists like julius malema. Don't you think so?

The National diagnostic plan is one initiative JZ is implementing well, wonder why it is that we never see the positive things JZ has done. Yes many will ignorantly say there is nothing, but really if we take time to find facts and not rely on the media for info maybe we would see why other people still believe in the man.

  • michael.jackwood - 2012-11-23 15:06

Mazibuko is the one obsessed with President Zuma, if you think Zuma has faiiled, we dont think so as ANC members and that is the reason we want to give him second term, Mazibuko must not worry about ANC issues, she must keep her madam and we will keep our Zuma.

      rontheogre - 2012-11-23 15:54

The thing is there is a difference between ANC members(the only ones that benefit from fraud, corruption, nepotism, etc) and ANC supporters(those that vote for idealogical reasons). Because of being a member you will support Zuma in screwing his and the ANC supporters as well as the rest of the country.

      SarelJBotha - 2012-11-23 17:05

jackyll jackoff, so you wanna keep a liar, womanizer and person who generally make all our people's name gat? Whow, you are a bright spark.

      wade.johnson.58726 - 2012-11-23 19:22

@michael.jackoff: You don't think that Zuma has failed ? You must have extremely low standards, as to what makes a President. I mean, what else could Zuma have done, to make us think less of him. Please tell me what constitutes failure, in this position. Is it not enough that Zuma has had over 700 criminal charges laid against him ? Is it not enough that he has done his utmost to cover-up his involvement in the arms Deal, & put through unconstitutional Laws ? He failed to declare his Assets after taking office; he made sure Shabir Shaik was released after 2 years in Prison; he gets women Pregnant who he's not married to. He's a joke. What has he achieved since he assumed office ? NOTHING. Now he's using Tax Payers money to further upgrade his Palace ? Having a President like that is bad enough, but please don't insult our intelligence, by claiming that he hasn't failed.

The DA is obsessed with the ANC i got to admit it every little chance they get they picking on them. I came to the conclusion that without the ANC there's no DA. Instant of the DA talking about what they will do for this country they busy chasing after the ANC. Have you ever wondered why they majority are having doubts about the DA? Its not that we don't like the DA we love it but their obsession over the ANC is ridiculous. The comments of white people on news24 also don't make it easy for as black people to vote for the DA. I was once a number 1 fan for DA but that changed when i started reading the comments that are made by white people not that am an ANC supporter anyways. I would rather take my vote else were that voting for the DA or ANC for that matter. DA you need the black vote but the way you leaders carry on don't make it easy for as to put you in government to prove this look at the dislikes i am gonna get in the next couple of minutes.

      sango.jika - 2012-11-23 16:45

Yes jamba that's my opinion, but then again if the majority of people were not thinking what i'm thinking the DA would have won the elections in 2009. So its not only my opinion its the majorities opinion even my friends we were talking about this on the way home last night we all feel the same. Also people who were in the train joined in the conversation we were having. i know for the fact that the ANC is doing a bad job so as everyone else.

      Erna - 2012-11-23 18:00

Is's the DA's job to criticise the government and the reason it looks like they are obsessed with the anc is because of the anc's many screw ups. Just look at the many idiotic things the anc have to say about the DA in the WC. They have now laid a case of 'inflammatory tweeting' against Helen Zille because they can't report her for anything more serious; which is more than what can be said for zuma and his cohorts.

      sango.jika - 2012-11-23 18:40

Erna i understand exactly what u are saying, i hope you understood what i was trying to say too. I knw the ANC is doing a lot of screw ups since showerhead took the office i also want change because i'm sick and tired of the ANC. As i have said the DA and its supporters are not making it easy for me to vote for them as a black person. The negativity i am sensing from white people whether its a political article or not the response of white people is mostly negative.

No erna, we feel intimidated by a big woman

      dewaldt.duplessis.5 - 2012-11-23 19:24

  • wayne.faulds - 2012-11-23 16:21

Absolutely love this woman! What a stand-up character

      lindani.zulu.714 - 2012-11-23 16:39

Yeah.. A very good stand up comedian

      tersia.louw.12 - 2012-11-23 22:26

That would be "comedienne". If you're going to take cheap shots, at least get them right.

  • phillip.mvundura.5 - 2012-11-23 16:25

As I said, Lindiwe needs a husband, her public occupation with the President has reached immoral high ground. Isn't there any man to console this Lindiwe? You ask yourself what has she and her party done to the plight of the poor. The Western Cape has too far proportion number of the poor who are more exploited than the poor in any other provinces in SA.

      Mandlenkosi Manqele - 2012-11-23 16:48

we know where you got that line of reasoning

  • dee.shabalala - 2012-11-23 16:32

Blah blah blah blah, pause let me have some chicken and then blah blah blah blah blah blah again

  • kenny.bianco.7 - 2012-11-23 16:34

Ppl u must just remember that Lindiwe's speaches are prepared for her, the racist whites in SA will never change, feeling sorry for poor lui-Letta who can't even cook,

      Erna - 2012-11-23 16:45

Unlike of course your president, who writes all his own speeches.

      Erna - 2012-11-23 18:02

      ...and who can't cook either!

      vivian.harris.73 - 2012-11-23 18:33

And I feel sorry for you and many others like you who still vote for the ANC, After 18yrs they living in mansions, security complexes, driving expensive cars, having lavish parties while the voting masses live like animals with no running water or decent sanitation. They send their kids to private schools while the masses struggle to get a decent education. They have huge expense accounts while the masses are unemployed and struggling to feed their families.

      manqoba.zulu.54 - 2012-11-23 19:06

Vivian I'm only 36, I grew up studying in rural area, I remember using a candle to study, in a school with no laboratory and I was a science students, the white gvnment did not know about us, we did not exist, try and find out about the rural development policy of the DA you won't find any as that community do not exist on them, today that school has a state of the art library, we have electricity, and running water, so don't feel sorry for us now as we are fine, you did nothing for us when we needed your help, what will change you now, DA can fool the few but majority judge the ANC based on what they experience not what they are made to believe:

      vivian.harris.73 - 2012-11-23 23:59

@zulu54....the DA's development policy shouldn't be your concern as you didn't vote for the DA.The ANC you and others voted for should be dealing with development in those areas...isn't that why voted for them? I feel sorry for you because you and people like you don't see anything wrong with the ANC stealing and wasting billions that could have been used for the benefit of their voters.

  • hezekiel.lefopane - 2012-11-23 16:38

The more she opens her mouth, the more ANC get votes...what has her party done in limpopo, mpumalanga n other provinces..I still wait to see a bridge or sanitation provided by DA..nothing

      manqoba.zulu.54 - 2012-11-23 18:56

Jumba Jamba whatever you call yourself, I can tell what the DA has done in the WC when you land at the airport drive out of the airport, you will see the shacks there, at the side of the airport, when you go to Khayelitsha you will see the same disturbing conditions, those areas are do not exist in the books of the DA, go to the elite you will swear you are In a different country, got to rural area, th DA has no policy on rural development, for the first time I have drinking water and electricity in the bush as you people refer to it, now I have dignity because of the ANC

      vivian.harris.73 - 2012-11-24 13:04

So how come the ANC didn't do anything about those shacks when they were running the WC for so many years before the DA took over? And those people living there voted for the ANC not the DA....

      maylani.bezuidenhout - 2012-11-24 20:54

Hezekiel, why should the DA build in Mpumalanga or Limpopo? They not the government there? Come see the Western Cape if you want to know about working.

  • ndyeboreginaldmazawule - 2012-11-23 16:50

Mazibuko you are obsessed with Zuma my girl ey

  • Karabo Phetoane - 2012-11-23 16:52

Lindiwe is more obsessed with Zuma, she might as well go back to where she was born in Swaziland and fight to liberate her people from the hands of the Swazi absolute monarch King Mswati

      lindani.zulu.714 - 2012-11-23 18:44

      vluiz - 2012-11-23 17:10

Do you want to marry him?. How old are you? Ten?

  • noeln.petzer - 2012-11-23 16:54

      lindani.zulu.714 - 2012-11-23 18:43

      Hey boer..u drunk..

      maylani.bezuidenhout - 2012-11-24 20:56

      9% in 1999, 12% in 2004, 16.6% in 2009, 24.1% in 2011 I'm thinking at least 35% in 2014?

  • SarelJBotha - 2012-11-23 17:02

Sadly the DA's probllem is that they only want to get into office, but in effect have the same socialist policies that the ANC has. The DA just proposes that they will not be as corrupt, but in effect it the policies that is corrupt as well. RSA's money will run out of socialism is allowed to continue on its way, so I would prefer the DA tells us how they are going to prevent this from happening.

  • mdawini.vodloza - 2012-11-23 17:18

I tend to wonder who these Politicians take us for, especially the likes of Lindiwe Mazibuko who are used by unrepentant whites whom we forgave for the transgressions they committed to black pple during and after apartheid. How hypocritical is this Lindiwe sounding like, whilst she too is obsessed with reelection. To Lindiwe Mazibuko just wait and see when these whites who are using you, get what they want. They will discard you in the blink of an eye.I just wish the ANC can learn something from pple in Zimbabwe esp Honourable Mugabe who put these whites in their place

      maylani.bezuidenhout - 2012-11-24 20:57

Using her for what? You are lying through your teeth Mdawini.
