Zuma win sparks DA membership drive

2012-12-19 09:06

Bloemfontein - Minutes after President Jacob Zuma’s re-election into the party’s top spot was announced, the DA seized the moment by running a Twitter-driven membership drive.

The DA’s parliamentary leader, Lindiwe Mazibuko, retweeted several messages of people pledging their support for the party or asking where they could join the party.

One of the invites was of the DA caucus in Mangaung saying: “We invite all SA’ns who are disappointed, to join the DA in working for, and delivering, meaningful social change and job creation in SA”.

Lindi Mashinini (@LindiweEM) tweeted: “@Lindimazibuko You have my vote! I am not voting for Zuma as my President in 2014! For the 1st time in my life I am ashamed of the ANC!”

Kholofelo Maepa tweeted: “tjo, @lindimazibuko’s timeline is full of people joining #DA from #ANC, this second term is surely chasing people away form ANC.”

'Zuma wins, DA celebrates'

The DA City Bowl Branch tweeted: “Wow, our inbox is overflowing with people keen to join the DA. Welcome everyone!”

Sisanda Mbulana (@SMbulana) tweeted: “I’m officially joining the DA. Can’t stand Jacob Zuma and his people.”

A lot of tweets inquired about branches where they could get membership forms to join, and party councillors and MPs chirped in to give advice and direction.

Acclaimed writer Zakes Mda also picked up the trend, tweeting: “As I said before Mangaung: Zuma wins, DA celebrates.”

DA leader Helen Zille sent out an invite soon after the announcement about Zuma’s re-election was made to “all South Africans who are disappointed by the ANC’s decision today [to re-elect Zuma] to join his movement – this new majority that is working for, and delivering, meaningful social change and job creation in South Africa”.

Meanwhile, the ANC in a statement on Tuesday night said Zille’s comments on the ANC’s leadership election were the result of “political jealousy inspired by malicious desperation to have the same support enjoyed by the ANC in this country”.

Zille had said the election results would hasten the “disintegration” of the ruling party.

      Albert Dempsey - 2012-12-19 09:30

thank you Zuma for showing ur true colours once again. Just like PW Botha u will be remembered for being a disgrace to all South Africans. Enjoy ur last 4 years of power.

      Jason - 2012-12-19 09:34

I said from the beginning, if Zuma is elected it will be the best thing for the DA. All the fence sitters will now not vote or vote DA. If someone else had gotten in those fence sitters might be tempted to give the ANC another chance. Viva SA Viva.

roman.caesar.121 - 2012-12-19 09:35 not a anc supporter..but i love ur comment. start smiling guys..zuma won!!! that means more votes for DA

  • kortbroek.duplessis - 2012-12-19 09:19

Well this is fantastic. As the DA grows from strengh to strengh it is my hope that they will retain their values like hard work, honesty, democracy and putting their constituents first. Please don't become just another ANC

      brian.exmachina - 2012-12-19 10:30

The DA can't afford to be another ANC. Unlike the ANC, the DA knows they get votes because they perform, and if they stop performing those votes will leave them.

      rowan.clark.10 - 2012-12-19 20:52

Well it looks like we should be celebrating all round ,some are happy to get there snouts back in the gravy . Others are happy because some did not. For those that did not get any gravy try another recipe . How about giving the gravy to the chef with a Distinct Appetite for cutting out wastage and preparing great meals for everyone at the table. But any great chef needs great ingredients like YOUR VOTE to start the meal and bon appetite if you are willing to try this chef .

I voted for the DA last elections, now am going back to the ANC. Ramaphosa is the man.

      Erna - 2012-12-19 09:27

That may be but the rest is still the same bunch of corrupt and lying officials - one man is not going to make a difference.

      johnny.better.12 - 2012-12-19 09:36

@luluma, because of ONE man you want to change the vote? Dude, please. He is just as money / power hungry as the rest. Remember what he said about the poor Lonmin strikers?

      charlesbronson.bronson - 2012-12-19 09:40

Ramaphosa associated himself now with the most corrupted man in SA - JZ. He associated himself with the most corrupted party in SA. He will become another JZ - Greedy. A chines proverb say - A thief in the family is difficult to detect.

      frank.hall.7509 - 2012-12-19 09:44

      when will you learn lulama

      Jason - 2012-12-19 09:45

I might understand if he was the next Prez! But the vice president has about as much bite and granny gums!!

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-12-19 10:34

Lulama. No, Ramaphosa is not the man, Zuma is.

      dewaldmontgomery - 2012-12-19 12:32

That's a mistake, my friend. Because the DA has good policies. Ramaphosa will still not call the shots, although at least he's safeguarded us against destructive economic policies. Perhaps we should all vote for him, though, and celebrate, because a little voice tells me IF he makes it to the president's seat, he will also be the LAST of our short line of ANC presidents. The ANC is corroding itself from inside. That's what happens if your party colours is only representative of three colours of the national flag; or if your party lacks 21st century vision; or if you try to rule rather than govern; or if you focus on superficial rather than real transformation; etc. Enjoy it while it lasts, but I still think you should go check out the DA's plans for REAL economic growth, employment and social upliftment.

      attie.stone.3 - 2013-01-14 19:35

Did you not read what Zuma said "Businesses that support the anc are going to flourish....perhaps Cyril wants to fast track his business's shares in the coming years

  • piet.motsoeneng - 2012-12-19 09:23

This is the worst mistake by Anc, even worse than Polokwane. I am sure Anc will learn the hard way that not all South Africans are as stupid as they may think.

      SiquB - 2012-12-19 11:27

DA material! short sighted ,they will use you and dump you just go

      dewaldmontgomery - 2012-12-19 12:33

Nonsense. Have you seen how the DA rewards their black councillors for WORKING HARD? (And no, it's got nothing to do with tenders or bonuses).

      irma.white.9 - 2012-12-19 12:44

You know what they say about assumptions, Siqu? Don't be so sure about what YOU THINK the DA stands for... remember Zille was an anti apartheid activist, just like JZ and the "old" ANC. Remember that before you think there are hidden agendas.

      vuyisan - 2012-12-19 20:39

you are right Piet, they gonna learn the hard way

      piet.motsoeneng - 2012-12-20 10:19

Anc is digging its own grave and they are doing it fast. It is loosing everything they once stood for. This concept of support a person no matter what, is one of the greatest tragedies of humankind. Slate politics are a good recipe for disaster. I hope South Africans will soon wake up to this harsh reality and do something about it, soon rather than later.

You don't have to. Vote for a party that best fits your values. It is clear from your comments that you're not happy with the ANC, so try a different party. Check out their performance and their policies. Vote with your head, not your heart. In the end what we're after is a strong government, and a strong government means a diverse government made up of many different parties who have to work together to succeed. Our current one party state is what led to this situation.

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-12-19 10:40

DA is not different to a black mamba caught by cold out there, when you take it to your house and get warmth it will turn to kill you immediately. So people must be warned not to take this snake to their house because those who did not experience the bitterness of apartheid, they will experience it once the DA is in power and unemployment, inequality and corruption will be the order of the day.

So people must be warned not to take this snake to their house because those who did not experience the bitterness of apartheid, they will experience it once the ANC is in power and unemployment, inequality and corruption will be the order of the day. There I fixed your comment:)

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-12-19 10:45

Charles.kubhayi.3 Any one stupid enough to take a black mamba home do not belong in the DA. Unemployment, inequality and corruption, aren't that the order of the day right now?.

      brian.exmachina - 2012-12-19 10:47

Just for a moment forget everything you think you know about the DA. Now I ask you, if what you're saying was true why would MORE people vote DA in the Western Cape as time progressed? In 2004 27.11% in WC voted DA, in 2009 51.46% in 2011 54.68% including several black areas. Surely if the DA is such a snake their support wouldn't get stronger. The people would realise that they had brought a snake home and next election they'd vote for another party. But they don't. They vote DA in greater numbers. Why do they do this? Because the inconvenient truth is that the Western Cape now has the country's lowest unemployment rate. It has the highest access to education of any province. It doesn't waste tax payers money. It performs. To believe otherwise is simply indoctrination.

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 10:58

Oh so basically what is currently happening under the ANC right now?

      OwenCPT - 2012-12-19 11:03

Oh? I didn't know you are a psychic? Or maybe you are a self-appointed sangoma and think you can predict the future, or what people think and do for that matter. When you are on your deathbed, are you going to STILL blame apartheid for your imminent death? Probably.

      andrew.selous - 2012-12-19 11:14

sorry brother the anc has already been bitten, the only problem is, it is dying a slow and miserable death.

      dewaldmontgomery - 2012-12-19 12:40

If that's so, why are the traditional ANC wards in the Cape turning DA? Why is the DA on almost 40% in Gauteng? Why is the DA on almost 40% in the Northern Cape? And are you happy about the fact that the ANC brought you e-toll? Or that they deny thousands of young black people the opportunity to be trained in practice by us who have businesses through their opposition of youth wage? Or that the ANC is anti-business, and therefore unable to grow the economy, or generate more and more fair taxes that it could have used to uplift communities? Wonderful party indeed. We'll stick to the DA, and salute every other South African who turns from the yellow green and black brigade to a party with all the colours of our flag in its emblem!

      lawrence.brown.5243817 - 2012-12-20 10:31

And you back this cr@p up with what? Forget not, that those running the DA actually made a massive contribution to the democratization of a free South Africa. Frankly, I think you should sit down and write a nice little letter to the Exec of the DA and thank them. Now, the only party that still subscribes to an equal, fair, non-racist and truly democratic South Africa - a party for all South Africans - is the DA. Why wouldn't you want that? I'm sure your children will!

      cyntay - 2012-12-22 21:32

amazing you say under the DA unemployment, inequality and corruption will be the order of the day... wow where have u been ...... that has been happening for the past 5 years under the ANC. guess u been sniffing glue or smoking dagga.... wake up and see whats happening around you today and look closely at where the DA governs. there is NO CORRUPTION, unemployment is one of the key issues that the DA wishes to focus on but the ANC government keeps blocking them, the receive CLEAN AUDITS in all areas they govern!!! you also forget that Helen Zille was part of the struggle to remove apartheid. but because her skin is white u assume that she dont care about the people. she is the only one who really cares about what happens to this country and is trying under very difficult circumstances to correct all that is wrong... try taking those stupid ANC blinkers off and look at the real world

YOU have to change, it cannot be done for you you. As in the Matrix, you can be shown the door, YOU have to walk through it.

      charl.malan.12 - 2012-12-19 10:41

@werner What is your point d@ckhead? and let me guess you one of those d@ckheads who dont vote either because it wont make a difference! you attitude stinks

      manqoba.zulu.54 - 2012-12-19 10:48

Jonny how about you changing? how about you realising that I am capable to think? and I respect my leaders, that I take offence when I'm told people who were prepared to die for me all of a sudden are monsters, Jonny when I needed you the most( during apartheid) you were no where to be seen, and when my place have electricity, tap water, when my children can now go to any best school and I can access all opportunities, you people tel me I you care about me, and that I am stupid for voting ANC,Jonny keep your DA and don't worry about me as I am fine, and I really mean it when I say majority is fine.mine is to educate my children of where we came from make them compare and make their choices.

      Kumkani Soketse - 2012-12-19 10:51

Your comments r not correct. get your facts right before u paint everybody with the same brush because of your prejudice.

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 11:01

@werner - go vote for your racist FF+

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 11:03

@manqoba - May I ask as to why you keep voting for corruption in the ANC? Do you think it will get better? It's been almost 20 years and it's a lot worse. And don't say you were freed blah blah, or you get free stuff while others work to pay for it.

      OwenCPT - 2012-12-19 11:06

You are one awesome person. What a great mindset to have :) With people like you in this country, we will indeed be great ^^,

      OwenCPT - 2012-12-19 11:11

Manqoba, you should try have Lilly's mindset. That is the way forward. And what is so wrong with correcting people, be it white black or indian? Should we allow people to just carry on with life, having the wrong idea about things, or be ignorant? If we want to make this country great, we need to root out the bad attitudes. Sure there are still a few racist whites, but hell, there are also a few racist blacks. The majority want a united country. I know that so many people, regardless of colour, do not see black people as less than, or as out servants. Why do you think this? Just because that was the case in 1950, doesn't mean that it is like that now. People change, attitudes change. Are you going to be one of those that remain with an outdated, racist mindset?

      manqoba.zulu.54 - 2012-12-19 11:19

@ Killbot why ask a question and give an answer, you are not interested on my answer, I will answer anyway, I don't vote for corruption I vote for ANC, I see what they do and I can see huge change, I must be honest I got excited when Mr Zuma was charged and I said for once one man found guilty in the public eye by the media will be proven guilty in the court of law, I loved Mbeki and I wanted him to continue, but when no one was prepared to give that damning evidence over and above what was conspired by Ngcuka and co, I lost faith in both the media and the opposition, what they only achieved was to divide the ANC and that's all, that does not stop me from voting ANC, I work and pay both the rent and rates, I pay for my kids education I pay tax as well, my parents are not paying for those though and nothing wrong with that as they lost out in both education and opportunities because of the government at the time,

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 12:10

Not good enough, you know the ANC is corrupt all over but you turn a blind eye, the ANC hates whites.

      manqoba.zulu.54 - 2012-12-19 12:37

Killboy you are incorrect, they maybe individuals in the ANC that hate whites but majority don't, we even got whites as leaders in our movement. People like Hanekom, Craven, Rob davis, De Lange etc are our leaders and we love them,

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 12:45

Yeah right, like hell you love them. They betray white people.

      manqoba.zulu.54 - 2012-12-19 13:07

Haha Killbot they haven't they are our leaders with integrity, we love and respect them, I also don't think Lindiwe Mazibuko and Musie Maimane is a sell out, I think it is their choice to be DA and if they do well they may take over the leadership of the DA and make Steve Biko proud by being able to infiltrate that organisation, understand what it is and take over by being excellent in what they do,

      george.frangs - 2012-12-19 16:12

@ werner. Los dit, ten minste stem sy nie meer vir die ANC nie.

  • Isikhothane - 2012-12-19 09:31

Langalibalele Dube was the first president in 1912, that ignited the ascendance of the ANC, in 2012 Jacob "Zumizintombi" Zuma is the president that will ignite the demise of the ANC. Its so ironic that KZN born president gave birth, inbetween, the Eastern Cape born presidents of the ANC raised the ANC to being the giant it is !!!and now KZN born president is terminating the ANC. As tribalist is my comments are, they are truthful. I will never vote ANC in 2014 !!! DA will benefit from my abstainance, it will be a cold day in hell if DA get my vote.

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-12-19 10:49

  • manqoba.zulu.54 - 2012-12-19 09:34

Another reason I can't vote for the DA, what kind of politics is this that says if this person is voted and you don't like him come and join me, not all people are that stupid, you should have came out gun blazing criticising people who were planning to kill ANC leadership and civilians for no other reason other than that they are of different race and are in charge, and use that to demonstrate that you are a non racial party who care for everyone, you should have shown leadership in the farming strike, but because you don't see anything wrong in the slave wage that they get paid and the reason you see nothing wrong is non other than that they are black, the people joining you on media will only do that ask Cope

      silvia.vaneck2 - 2012-12-19 11:03

Manqoba, That is what true democracy is. You vote for the party who you think will make your life better. As for the 4 dudes that tried to bomb, well they do not represnt the DA. The DA is not a terrorist organisation.

      charl.malan.12 - 2012-12-19 11:06

You honestly dont know what you talking about and clearly dont follow the news! Civilians get killed every day in SA, brutally, now because 4 idiots planned to bomb the ANC tent, now suddenly all whites have to pay for their actions! dont generalize please! The farming strikes is a government issue, they set the labour wages, they must fix it and not turn it around and say it s The DA in the wstern Cape, get your facts straight

      OwenCPT - 2012-12-19 11:21

FFS, you clearly don't know the true meaning of democracy.

      manqoba.zulu.54 - 2012-12-19 11:32

Charl so when it suites you the government is capable of fixing problem, what happened to them being a useless bunch, can't some brilliant somebody help this useless government and pay these people? My understanding is that. Minimum wage is set and you can pay over and above that based on a variety of factors, but you find people manipulating that and paying minimum wage to everyone. You don't have to tell me about many whites who are not racist as that is a fact that I know, the unfortunate part is that the few racist ones are the loudest

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 12:13

Rather vote for a party that doesn't see black only but rather a rainbow, the ANC hates whites FACT!

      charl.malan.12 - 2012-12-19 13:02

manqoba< I never said the government was capable of fixing the problem, I said they must fix it, but why would they, its causing chaos in the WP and they actually think that this will work in their favor, wrong, it isnt! I can t say that its fact, but im sure that some workers who have been on farms for years gets more then R69 a day and you know what, its a job after all isnt it, free accommodation and they get food from the farmers. allot more then allot of jobless people in Urban/city areas. As much as your saying that the white racists are the loudest, the same for the blacks, its usually how it works!

      manqoba.zulu.54 - 2012-12-19 13:18

And you think by this answer I should vote the DA, forget my friend. If you think that paying someone that much is ok, that its fine cos they live in they live in farm hostels, and they get free food, these people got children to feed and educate, if that's how the DA thinks they must not be surprised if the maximum they get is 20% natianally,

      manqoba.zulu.54 - 2012-12-19 13:19

And you think by this answer I should vote the DA, forget my friend. If you think that paying someone that much is ok, that its fine cos they live in they live in farm hostels, and they get free food, these people got children to feed and educate, if that's how the DA thinks they must not be surprised if the maximum they get is 20% nationally,

      george.frangs - 2012-12-19 16:21

Manqoba, it doesn't matter who you vote for, or how the DA is taking adavntage of a situation to get votes. The fact remains that our current government has screwed us all!! I would vote for the ANC if they had a proper candidate who wasn't in court on corruption and rape charges. Thats the problem right there. It seems that to become leader of this country all you need is a criminal record, and you're sorted! It seems like the mentality of the majority is that you will be rewarded for behaving against the interests of the nation at large.

      brian.exmachina - 2012-12-20 09:51

Manqoba, farm workers get paid the same all over the country, even in ANC controlled areas. Minimum wages are decided by the government, unions, and other role players annually. You keep implying that this is somehow something the DA did. YOUR ANC majority government put those wages in place earlier this year, and all roleplayers at the time were happy. Now suddenly the wages being paid to workers country wide is no longer good enough, but it's only not good enough in the Western Cape. This doesn't sound fishy to you AT ALL? It is so obviously politically motivated it's not even funny. Secondly, the far right and bombs have nothing to do with the DA. They think the DA are traitors for being friendly to blacks and wanting equal rights for them. The old National Party is part of the ANC, its leader Marthinus van Schalkwyk a minister in your ANC cabinet. If you're looking for extremists, look for them in the ANC that you worship so much. The ANC who is resurrecting Apartheid type legislation like the secrecy bill. The ANC who is lying to you, saying that Western Cape pays their farmers differently from other farmers. The ANC who is lying to you saying that the DA is a white party while the majority of their support is black. The ANC who is lying to you and saying the DA will bring back Apartheid when it is the ANC with the Apartheid laws and racist politicians.

  • morrisn2 - 2012-12-19 09:34

  • Sphiwe Sibal'khulu Dlamini - 2012-12-19 09:34

      Dawn Campbell Gibson - 2012-12-19 09:50

Sphiwe - you are probably right and do you know why. 66 to 70% are uneducated.

      dewaldmontgomery - 2012-12-19 16:00

Now imagine that. Doesn't mean a thing. I mean, in this country, someone who rapes babies believing it will cure them of aids, someone who kills children and drink their blood thinking it will make them invisible to do crime, has exactly the same power to decide over your future! That's funny actually. But no, you're wrong. The ANC will NOT win 66%. They will be happy if they win 59%. And they will lose Gauteng. Why? Because of the ANC, chicken and maize meal prices will skyrocket due to e-toll. Clothes will become more expensive. Hence, Pick n Pay workers, Checkers workers, Shoprite workers, Pep workers and so forth will strike for more pay. Hence, the shops will further increase their prices. And ultimately, the ANC will pay the price. Fasten your seatbelt, Sphiwe, the ride's gonna be rough.

      peasant.mcpoor - 2012-12-20 10:43

@Sphiwe: You are correct, I dont know about the number though. ANC, like the rest of the dick-tatorships in this world stay in power always (until their own people decide to take them out through violence)

The fact that the head of crime intelligence and police commissioners were criminals? The fact that they kill each other when they disagree? The fact that they are mostly uneducated and refuse to debate on the state of the nation? Or are you more a secrecy bill / e-toll / Travelgate person yourself? I'm serious. • smalefane - 2012-12-19 09:40

Why are people blaming the ANC for exercising their democratic internal processes? At least we could celebrate that there are people within the party who had the spine to challenge for leadership positions. This serves to confirm that the ANC is still the epitome of democracy. Who would dare challenge Zille in the DA? I am not celebrating a Zuma win but rather democracy.

      NIPHONKOSI - 2012-12-19 09:49

      Well put

      johnny.better.12 - 2012-12-19 10:16

If maybe you paid better attention in class, you will know that Zille is being challenged. It is also a clever inter-party alliance -- just like cANCer.

Smalefane, excercising their democratic internal processes?. I thought you took medicine for that.

      OwenCPT - 2012-12-19 11:24

How exactly is it democratic when 4000 people decide the fate of 50 million people? The ANC's election process is flawed, just like most other things they do.

      Tumelo.BraLes.Faith - 2012-12-19 11:32

      Thank you for saying that

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 12:16

Or is it democracy ANC style? As long as the ANC wins then democracy has prevailed but if you vote DA then you won't go to heaven. Yes now I see it's very democratic.

      irma.white.9 - 2012-12-19 12:54

The only reason why Zuma wa challenged is because he is so corrupt, someone wanted change. The only reason why he won is because he is so corrupt, all ANC officials can happily remain corrupt under him and nothing will happen. No one challenged Zille because there is no need, why fix something that works fine?

      byron.matthews.562 - 2012-12-19 13:10

@Happyness "No one challenged Zille because there is no need, why fix something that works fine? " So, if everything works fine in your affluent area, you would be happy with Zille leading the DA until she dies or retires? Lifetime leader?

      george.frangs - 2012-12-19 16:25

Thats kind of twisted logic.... I think that nobody has come forth to oppose her, is that there is no need.

      byron.matthews.562 - 2012-12-19 16:47

so there's no need ... as determined by your lifestyle in the area you live in. No need. No-one on the cape flats sees a need. No-one in the townships sees a need. Lifetime leader? Sure? There's no need.

      george.frangs - 2012-12-20 07:56

Byron, I live in Joburg, it's run by the cANCer, so no, it's not an affluent area. Take your head out your ass.

      sharmay.thuynsma - 2012-12-20 08:35

Um, Zille was uncontested as a leader with their internal election do. If someone wanted to challenge, they could have.

      peasant.mcpoor - 2012-12-20 10:49

I wouldnt challenge Zilla! She is a machine. She has more grace in her pinky than almost the entire ANC party (and their followers) put together. More than me and most people I know. She really is a true SA icon near the levels of Mandela.

      byron.matthews.562 - 2012-12-20 13:40

Wow, what a way to support your argument there that there's no need to change leadership in the DA because everything's working splendid in the Western Cape when you live in Johannesburg. You're obviously an expert on how great it is where I live. I'm the one with my head buried? I wouldn't stoop as low as you by referencing where its buried. You obviously have a sound argument hence the need to swear. Looking forward to more ad hominem. You're probably going to call me an ANC supporter next

      george.frangs - 2012-12-21 09:39

Well Byron you were the one to first make the assumption about me and where I live and how apparently affluent I am and how well the ruling party is governing it. Maybe I must stick my head up my ass too so that I may experience the wonderful fantasy world you're living in.

      byron.matthews.562 - 2012-12-21 09:58

"Well Byron you were the one to first make the assumption about me and where I live and how apparently affluent I am and how well the ruling party is governing it. " - show me where I assumed that of you.

      byron.matthews.562 - 2012-12-21 10:03

well, on second thought, forget I asked, I'm clearly wasting my time. You'll just drag me down to your level and beat me with experience. Your last post especially, has no indication of what has transpired on this thread. So yes, my head is buried because someone in JHB knows how great things are where I live in the Western Cape and I live in a fantasy world for saying things are not great where I live. You win. Congrats. Enjoy your last day on earth. Don't feel offended if I don't respond to your clever and truthful retort. Just assume you won.

Before anyone, black or white, votes for the DA I urge them to come to News24 and read comments that I left by those who support the DA. Especially comments by majority of the white commentators on this sight, and just read and understand their deep hatred blacks and unity in SA. If so many supporters of this party share such centiments about blacks, as black person or democratic person who hates racism if you vote DA you would a fool!!! Pick any of the stories on this sight: '4 arrested for plot to 'kill' Zuma'- read their comments! 'Metro cop killed in hijacking in Soweto' - read their comments! 'Female metro cop(black) beaten by a farmer(white)' - read their comments! DA is supported by RACISTS!!!

      shaylene.stenger - 2012-12-19 09:53

@bheki And there is nothing racist about your comment?

      beki.khumalo - 2012-12-19 10:05

@Shaylene, please enlighten me; what's racist about my comment??? It's the truth!!! I always find it puzzling how quick one is labelled a racist by some just because they pointed out racist attitudes. I can assure you Shaylene, I'm NOT racist at all! Some of my business partners happen to be white Afrikaaners. I even have ex-girlfriends who are white Afrikaaners. What I hate with a passion is racists and anything that accomodates racists, and the DA is doing exactly that!

      nico.eksteen.7 - 2012-12-19 10:15

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

      beki.khumalo - 2012-12-19 10:19

@Nico, kindly point out that 'beam' to me sir?

      nico.eksteen.7 - 2012-12-19 10:38

Beki, did you read the racist comments of some of your black ANC-supporters on News 24?

      beki.khumalo - 2012-12-19 10:54

Nico, the fact that there are 'SOME' racist blacks on this forum gives you no right to be racist as well! Granted, you get racists of all skin colours, this article speaks to, and tried to encourage membership for the DA. My issue is that this forum is dominated by white racist DA supporters. And that's majority of commentators on this forum! Did you, Nico, read the examples that I gave earlier? There's no excuse for racism Nico, you can't say 'because some black people are racist, I'll be racist too'! Speak against racism, condemn the attempt by extrimists to kill blacks at a conference, condemn farm killings either by a farmer on a labourer or an attack on farmers, speak against crime in general and don't racialise it, speak against poverty and inequalities facing our people, show that you care for the majority that are still disadvantaged, speak up for a non-racial society! Then those of us who might find it difficult calling the ANC a home might find refuge in the DA!

      rob.bayliss.94 - 2012-12-19 10:57

beki: Here are some truisms for you.. 1. Racism does not recognise skin colour or ethnicity, with whites being only 10% of SA's population you can project how the racists are distributed. 2. You know when politicians are lying, there lips move....whatever party. 3. Unity breeds degeneration through lack of individuality and new ideas, whatever the politics. 4. In politics, whatever the party, when it comes to choosing between ethics/morality and loyalty/self interest very occasionally the former is chosen....But some groups are certainly less ethical than others. Wise up man, you are obviously educated so use your capacity to look at a bigger picture.

      beki.khumalo - 2012-12-19 10:59

Hahahahahahahah! @Charl, I don't have time to entertain idiots who resort to insults when they cannot substantiate a simple debate.

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-12-19 11:01

Beki khumal. You urge people to read what you had to say. You some kind of missionary now?.

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-12-19 11:07

Beki.khumalo You hate what your mind concoct. How many white racists do you know? Or do you really think you are capable of distinguishing between an opinion and a racist hate driven speech. Has it already been proven that those people wanted to kill Zuma?. Plus all the other things you mention, did only racists reply?. Between you and me young friend, you are way off and need to seriously address the rot that have taken hold of your mind.

      charl.malan.12 - 2012-12-19 11:10

@beki How do you debate with someone who believes all whites on here is racist, which is clearly a load of hogwash. dont point a finger because remember there are always 4 pointing right back at ya!!!!! The hate speech i have read on this forum from blacks is bordering on sadistic, so please keep your comments to yourself!

      silvia.vaneck2 - 2012-12-19 11:14

Ha ha ha ha...some racist blacks?? How do you know that the whites that post racist comments are DA? How do you know that the 4 that got arrested were DA and even if they were can you prove that they have the blessing of the DA leadership for this planned attack? Unless of course we can now accept that the ANC has given it's blessing for all the whites and farmers that were killed by ANC members in the last 18 years!!

      OwenCPT - 2012-12-19 11:38

A few racist morons on News24 does NOT represent the entire white population. Just like a stupid moron that has 8 wives and showers to remove AIDS doesn't represent the entire black population...

      beki.khumalo - 2012-12-19 11:48

@ Rob, you say '1. Racism does not recognise skin colour or ethnicity, with whites being only 10% of SA's population you can project how the racists are distributed.' Tell me then how it was possible for the very same minority(10% of the population, as you put it) to impose racist apartheid laws on the majority??? To the rest of the other comments, your desperate attempts at defending the DA and racism are not holding any water at all at this stage. Please try use a logical and intelligent approach, maybe then we'll understand each other. If I were a true DA supporter I would have been able to distance the racists from the DA. But clearly most of you think the DA is a home for racists, maybe you're right and for that reason I discourage any right thinking South African to join or vote the DA. Until the party can come out and distance itself from the trolls on this forum. Most of which troll in the name of the DA. Did I say all whites on this forum are racists??? NO!

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 12:20

ANC hates whites, ANC kills white farmers, BEE, AA is racist. TRUTH and FACT! Just reading your comment is also racist. PIG

      be.els.33 - 2012-12-19 12:29

Totally agree with you, Beki. Most of the comments on this site from white DA supporters are racist and derogatory. And how stupid can anyone be to think that insulting someone will convince them to change their vote? They are not people that Helen Zille would welcome into the DA. Do they realize that they are chasing away potential DA voters? I'm a DA voter, and these white, racist dumbos with room temperature IQs sicken me too.

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 12:48

@Be - you are correct, there is no place for racists in the DA but they are there, just like in the ANC. I honestly believe there are no racists in the ANC but that is also very difficult to believe since a lot of them have commented that they want to kill whites and send them back to Europe but they aren't racist.

      irma.white.9 - 2012-12-19 12:56

Funny, the same could be said about ANC supporter comments. If I read one more, "go back to Europe" comment I will scream.

      be.els.33 - 2012-12-19 13:06

Kill bot, you are a perfect example of the stupid white racists I describe. Go back and read some of your vile comments and cringe with shame. Sure, there are also some vile racist comments from black contributors here, but the fact that you willingly join them in flinging dung around demonstrates you own immaturity and love for playing in the sewers. You are no better than them.

      byron.matthews.562 - 2012-12-19 13:14

@beki.khumalo - be prepared for tons of ad hominem. You cant walk into a bar and criticise drinkers

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 13:20

      @Be - GFY racist idiot!

      byron.matthews.562 - 2012-12-19 13:20

@Be - the funny thing is the bigots are always shouting the loudest about the ANC wanting to keep the "masses" poor and uneducated. The irony is (besides the educated bit), should they become educated and come online to a site like this, do they really think they're making a strong case for the "previously uneducated masses" to vote for the DA?

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 13:22

@Be - like you are so innocent yourself!

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 13:25

@Be - by the way what has defending whites against the racist comments from ANC members got to do with you anyway. My comments are not inflammatory as some of the hate speech spewed here dikhed!

      manqoba.zulu.54 - 2012-12-19 13:30

Bheki I think you are fighting a loosing battle here these people don't reason, to Byron well said

ANC - YOU SUCK! cmon, admit it, now throw a chair!

      dewaldmontgomery - 2012-12-19 16:03

What you're ACTUALLY saying, is "We're happy we can keep you poor and uninformed so we can continue to indoctrinate you with our anti-DA and anti-white propaganda, believing nonsense like the DA will take away your grants or restore apartheyd, and prevent you from seeing for yourself how we are racist by definition in ourselves claiming to support a non-racial party". Something like that, hey.

  • NIPHONKOSI - 2012-12-19 09:44

Mxm it was just people messing with them yesterday, to think news24 would actually take this seriously is shocking to say the least. You people are stooping very low fo stories. You should know by now that SA twitter mustn't be taken seriously. Yesterday helen was pranked to think "bapsing" means she's a hero but not it's twitter slang for casual sex. Wake up!! Shame man.

Come 2014, I will be voting for the African National Congress

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 12:25

That's great, enjoy your corrupt president, he's not my president. I do not acknowledge this lying, thiefing, murdering government.

      dewaldmontgomery - 2012-12-19 16:07

Come 2014, I hope you will enjoy the consequences of e-toll, or the fact that poor black children won't receive textbooks, or that a few roads and bridges in Limpopo will collapse, or that 1.4 million people still live in no-name street in block B3 in Stinkwater while you change the name of Church street because it's offensive, or that you burn the farms because of minimum wages paid by farmers which are set by your government, or charities serving 90% black children go under because they can't receive donations due to 5% white children, and so on... Have fun. While the rest of us actually do the work.

  • angela.nair.3 - 2012-12-19 09:44

Yes! This is the way to go - we need a strong opposition - we will not let the ANC turn us into a one party state! Glad its technology and not slates! To all our black brothers and sisters that are brave enough to to see change as an alternative - I say welcome to the DA! Nothing is written in stone - but we do have a Democracy that allows us freedom of choice. The choice to see that change can make a difference. We have the choice to choose a political party every time an election is held! I voted ANC for the first election ever held - Madiba at the helm. The next election and I chose the DA - a wise choice - the ANC is not the liberators they were. The rot has seeped in and we have lost trillions of rand through mismanagement, corruption, Nkandla, Ministers who think our taxes are a piggy bank! We could have paid for e-tolls, more universities, schools, Job and Youth development and much more with all the money that is looted from our taxes. The DA wont win but they sure as hell will stay a strong opposition - our future matters! The Government needs to be reminded that they serve us - they are public servants! Chosen by people who want a better life!

  • peejay.maclane - 2012-12-19 09:47

Why use twitter? Poor people don't have that technology Helen start with mass rallies at poor communities maybe they'll get to join the DA or use radio to get more support Other than that the ANC might win come 2014 Viva DA Viva

      Tankiso Mogoje - 2012-12-19 10:45

Peejay i don't think you are a whitey you know because you do not understand how they operate, they do not want to be physically close to balcks and so it's better for them to sit in front of their gadgets instead of calling a meeting.Look at the last DA conference and make up your mind

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-12-19 11:11

You moron. You clearly haven't noticed the technology used at this very ANC conference.

  • ganon.nhubunga - 2012-12-19 09:50

    1. President Zuma, he fought for black people (literally in trenches, without pay) when some people were oppressing us (whites). He still smiles to us. He spent life in jail for us, oppressed. 2. Deputy Presidency: Cyril Ramaphosa, he fought for oppressed workers while white mine owners were oppressing us, he is a qualified lawyer too. 3.General Secretary, Gwede Mantashe, just fantastic as an administrator of the ANC, one of the best, friend of the workers. 4. Treasure General: Dr. Zweli Mkhize, medical doctor of course, we know what you are currently doing for us, we salute you.5. My Chairpeson, Lady Baleka Mbete, you are a star. 6. My Deputy Secretary,Jessie Duarte, you have always been a shining star for us who know where the ANC comes from. I think all who are saying they are giving their votes to the Demonic Allience, please do not fool us, you are DA members, finish & klaar! Any die hard ANC member knows that the new collective will guide us to the new heights. Even those who lost are still our members, all of them has good credentials and they will not be stupid enough to waste that on a racist organization like DA. When DA toyi toyi, the majority of whites are not there, only black people are told to go toyi toyi. I love ANC, DA, wake up, there is no sane black person who can vote for you. Only your garden boys & tea girls will vote for u because you blackmail into doing that & your coconuts (they believe they have got wrong skin texture).

      nic.nomicos.3 - 2012-12-19 10:19

@Ganon...the only trenches Zoooooomer ever saw were the ones dug for the foundatios of Nkandla...seems you can't stand the fact that black people are starting to wake up and see the African Nguni Congress for what it really is....

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-12-19 11:13

Ganon.nhbunga. There are times I wonder why I spend forty years in the trenches. This is one such a moment.

      OwenCPT - 2012-12-19 11:56

Ganon, say that to a black DA supporter and see what they say.... you are racist and insult your fellow people by saying that.

      DarrenCooper68 - 2012-12-19 12:26

Your point has some validity. If he is owed money for his contribution to the struggle against apartheid, why not be honest enough and pay him in a open and legitimate way. The method he seems to have used ie receiving bribes and the apparent underhanded Nkandla saga seems to me to show an immoral and dishonest person.

      DarrenCooper68 - 2012-12-19 12:28

Validity = your point of struggle without pay. The rest is pretty much racist claptrap

  • flysouth - 2012-12-19 09:52

The stupids of the ANC have spoken at Mangaung - and what they have said with their vote for Zuma is that they are happy to have as president a man with 783 serious criminal charges hanging over his head, a man once accused of rape (I have in my life never known a single person amongst my friends and acqaintances so accused!), a man happy to abuse taxpayers and the underprivileged by allowing vast expenditure on his personal abode. What is so evil about the DA? What are your reasons? They are not racist, they do not have a secret agenda, they have policies in place that already show improvements. Blind hatred is just stupid. Have valid reasons for not liking the DA. They are not perfect, but they are much better than the ANC

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 12:33

Oh, so you still base your vote on skin colour is it? Or is it drilled into your head that she will bring back apartheid, which will never happen because she fought against it.

Lol ay Bongani you're being economical with the truth now, just say you haven't been interested in listening to the DA when it spoke. Their policies are clear and have been on their website and in pamphlets and in parliament all this time, the ANC's sabc had some 15 mins for the DA during its congress and even there some of them were discussed. Now for example don't you know that the DA came up with the youth wage subsidy idea and made it their policy before the planning commission of Manuel drafted it into their NDP?

Sour grapes. Because you can't stand the fact that some people actually WANT to have a better future. So funny. You wanted democracy but you keep going for one party. How's that democracy? Democracy is when party A needs to work its ass off to prevent party B from winning the next election. And that party B wins if party A messes up, but party A stands a chance again if it pulls up its socks. Another ANC victim confusing democracy and afrodictohyponepocracy.

  • maluxionn - 2012-12-19 09:57

I for one having disillusioned by the ANC under Zuma and all those scandals en corruption was really warming up to the idea of voting for DA in the Next election. But having gone through the comments yesterday from whites in this forum after the arrest of those morons who wanted to bomb mangaung I thought No more.Zille could mean well when she say DA is not a racist party but her suppoters are racist based on what we read in this can't defend pple who wanted to destabilise the country and cause chaos by killing black people in that comference because they want to pursue their superiority en racist agenda in this simply can't en my inner circle have decided NO.

      nico.eksteen.7 - 2012-12-19 10:06

      Copy/Paste, like a stuck record.

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-12-19 11:17

Maluxionm. How do you know those were DA supporters? Those morons who wanted to bomb Mangaung, have they been found guilty yet?.

      trevor.dean.10 - 2012-12-19 11:48

I agree with you about some of the comments her from white people. However for you to assume they represent the DA is just ridiculous. The fact is that a lot of white people are racists and yet they vote for a non-racist party like the DA (talk about stupid!). I wish they would leave the DA and go and start the SA White Racist party, as they are damaging the DA with every stupid racist comment they make here.

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 12:39

So you will base your decision on a few bad apples in the apple cart is it?

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 12:42

@trev2 - Maybe we should start another white racist party to combat the black racist ANC. Are you insane? Anything a white person says on this forum is taken as racist by ANC supporters, like this, "I put my white socks on this morning", ANC supporter says, "OMG he is racist he didn't use black socks, that's so racist, he must be a DA supporter, brainwashed apartheid lover". Talk like that makes people upset and they get defensive, just like the racist ANC supporters on this forum. Idiot!

      solo.mathe.5 - 2012-12-19 13:03

@ kill... You are the racists he's referring to... So thank you for being a typical example...

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 13:40

@solo - read my comment carefully, it's being sacrastic about trev2 comment. Thanks for pointing out your stupidity. And why would I support a party that's for whites only? Then I would vote AWB now wouldn't I? Never have and never will I vote AWB just to let you know, but voting for the ANC, me at least means I am voting to promote hatred towards myself, see where I am coming from?

      dewaldmontgomery - 2012-12-19 16:16

And another Copy and Paste response: (1) You can't hold the DA responsible for the actions of white radicals who themselves DESPISE the DA. (2) Funny how terrified you are of five crazy white people.

  • marc.moon.10 - 2012-12-19 09:58

one thing i must say, is the da are not stupid. they really make the most of these opportunities. The ANC on the other hand, provide them with so many....

  • marc.moon.10 - 2012-12-19 09:59

after Zumas second term its straight off to jail where he belongs... can't hide from his crimes forever...

      nic.nomicos.3 - 2012-12-19 10:39

Let's hope so Marc...that's if evidence doesn't mysteriously dissappear....

      audrey.gono.3 - 2012-12-19 11:05

I'll agree with u if it was apartheid

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 13:41

@audrey - and you still said in a comment above that you vote for criminals.

  • lilly.phogole - 2012-12-19 10:00

@manqoba.zulu.54, Check all the wards and municipal(s) that DA has control of, there is progress, less fraud and corruption. I also agree with their polices and I believe given a chance they will improve the image of our country. Manquoba, I hope you are not one of those blind loyalists who voted Zuma in for second term. And besides all these, Zuma does not represent my own personal principles and values and He is a total opposite of my beliefs so basically I dont have a president currently.

      malusi.cele - 2012-12-19 10:11

You talking about stupid awards who cares about awards. Go to township in CPTWN and see what is happening there black people are poor and suffering

      willy.josephs - 2012-12-19 10:52

Malusi shame I can see the Zuma poor education system has already affected you,you can't even read properly...there's a big difference between a ward and an award! Compare wards that are governed by your party with those governed by the DA and oh if you realy know your current affairs and history of CPT you will compare the time the DA has been in charge there and that one when your party was in charge there...pity you don't even know that your party was governing CPT before the DA took over because all they were doing was infighting for positions and a lot of corruption prevailed rather than governing.

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-12-19 11:18

      Malusi.cele. Aren't they suffering everywhere?.

      trevor.dean.10 - 2012-12-19 11:50

@malusi. So you reckon in the townships in other parts of the country the people aren't poor and suffering? Hahahahaha!!

      solo.mathe.5 - 2012-12-19 12:10

@lily and co. So what you are saying is that the da left the people in the Capetown townships to suffer because that's what's happening all over the country! But then you also want us to think of CT as a good example of a province run by DA... Contradictory much?... Get out of here!

  • Tankiso Mogoje - 2012-12-19 10:01

Rand firmer after the smooth running of the ANC election conference in Mangaung, vote ANC in 2014

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 13:42

I eat All Bran to firm up as well.

      dewaldmontgomery - 2012-12-19 19:21

That's not why. It's because Fatboy now has 5 enemies in the top-6 of the ANC. Meaning your dreams of nationalisation and expropriation without compensation (in violation of international law, mind you) has been thrown out the door. Meaning, the ANC will collapse before they can concoct such policies. Meaning the so called 3rd force which helped took out the Nats, will help take out the ANC, and will help seat the DA. Meaning your victory is way too early, because you don't understand global economic and political dynamics.

  • malusi.cele - 2012-12-19 10:01

Poor DA shame they just can't do things on their own. Always waiting for ANC to do something then that Fat pig women she can open her big mouth. Viva ANC viva

      nic.nomicos.3 - 2012-12-19 10:25

      Moron Alert !!!!

      willy.josephs - 2012-12-19 10:44

I'm sure she's much better than your mom and your aunts combined....

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 13:42

And the Be tells me I am inflammatory in my comments...

      dewaldmontgomery - 2012-12-19 16:17

That's the nature of DEMOCRACY. You know, the concept you ANC supporters "struggled" for?

      brian.exmachina - 2012-12-20 10:02

So let me get this straight. In your world, the role of a good opposition is to sit by and do nothing when they uncover corruption, nepotism, criminal activity, a waste of public resources, bribery, and other criminal activities? Fascinating.

  • jamesedmundbird - 2012-12-19 10:01

    rather the devil you know.

      Killbot79 - 2012-12-19 13:42

      Or criminal in this case.
