Durban - According to information provided on the website of KwaZulu-Natal’s Office of the Premier, here is a snapshot of Premier Senzo Mchunu’s 20-year political career.

1958: Born Edward Senzo Mchunu in Nhlwathi, KwaZulu-Natal.

1981: Registered for a Bachelor of Pedagogics degree through the University of Zululand.

1985: Began teaching career at St Augustine's High School in Nquthu.

1986: Completed Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree through the University of South Africa, with majors in Education and International Relations. 

1988: Transferred to Eshowe and taught at Impande High School.

1990: Married uThungulu District Mayor Thembeka Mchunu.

1990: Appointed as a scribe of the regional interim committee of the ANC in northern Natal.

1991-1994: Elected as the first regional secretary of the northern Natal region of the ANC.

1994: Elected as the first provincial secretary of the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal following the merger of three regions in the province.

1997: Elected regional deputy secretary.

1997: Became ordinary member of the KwaZulu-Natal legislature.

1999-2002: Chairperson of the agriculture portfolio committee.

2002: Enrolled with the University of Free State for a two-year Masters programme in Political Transformation.

2002-2004: Chairperson of the social development portfolio committee.

2004-2009: Chairperson of the education portfolio committee.

2009-2013: MEC for Education in KwaZulu-Natal.

2013-2015: Provincial Chairperson of the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal.

2013-2016: Premier of KwaZulu-Natal.
