Port Elizabeth – Over 100 000 ANC members are expected to attend the launch of the party’s election manifesto this weekend.

It would be held at the 42 000-seater Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday and include the release of the ANC’s election song, the party’s head of elections Nomvula Mokonyane told reporters in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday.

“Normally you know it will be alliance speakers and then the president. We are also going to launch the election song. Not just through the play of the CD, so you better make sure you are fit and proper,” she said.

“It has Xhosa, Sotho, Zulu, and Sepedi in it. It is going to be 'wow'. It is not going to be the ANC choir singing. It is some of the prominent artists in South Africa that we have commissioned to put together this song,” she said.

A choreographed group of dancers would accompany the song.

A fleet of 4 000 buses and 3 000 taxis would be used to ferry supporters to the venue. Members in the Free State would arrive in four trains.  A total of 2 500 marshals would be there to help.

Roughly half of those attending would be from the Nelson Mandela Bay region.

She said those attending the event should expect something extraordinary.

Local government elections will be held on August 3.
