Cheetahs to send Naka abroad

Cape Town - Naka Drotské will not coach the Cheetahs in this year's Currie Cup after the union decided to send him to the UK to gain more coaching insight.

According to the Volksblad website, Rory Duncan has been made head coach of the Free State Cheetahs' Currie Cup side. He will be assisted by former Springboks Franco Smith and Os du Randt.

Drotské will, however, remain head coach of the Cheetahs in next year's Super Rugby competition, where he'll be assisted by Griquas coach Hawies Fourie and Du Randt.

Drotské will be sent to the UK to learn about the latest developments around new coaching structures and rugby matters.

Duncan, who captained the Cheetahs when they won the 2007 Currie Cup, coached the Free State XV in this year's Vodacom Cup.

He was originally earmarked to coach Free State's Under-21 side later this year, but that role will now be taken by former Cheetahs player MJ Smith, brother of Franco.
