Kruger looking good in training

Cape Town - Springbok lock Juandré Kruger looks likely to start in the third and final Test against England in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

Kruger injured his neck during the Boks' 36-27 win in Johannesburg on Saturday which led to uncertainty over his availability for the final Test.

But according to, Kruger took full part in the training session on Monday.

“We took all the precautions with Juandré when he came off in Johannesburg,” said team doctor Craig Roberts.

“He suffered whiplash but we took him straight to hospital where all the necessary scans were conducted. After a thorough assessment it was found that he is alright and as you saw he participated in training today.”

There's still doubt however over the availability of fullback Patrick Lambie (ankle) and flank Willem Alberts (knee). Both underwent scans on Monday morning and Roberts confirmed that they'll be given until Wednesday to prove their fitness.

“I can’t say at this stage what their chances of playing are. Patrick is quite sore at the moment but with a bit of rest he might improve. If they are not ready by Wednesday they will not play.”

Gio Aplon trained at fullback in the shadow team with Jacques Potgieter working on the flank in the place of Alberts. With Frans Steyn unavailable because he is getting married, Meyer looks set to start with Wynand Olivier at inside centre.

The Stormers' Joe Pietersen was also called up on Monday to provide cover at fullback.

The clash at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium kicks off at 17:00 on Saturday.
