Scheepers into Swedish final

Johannesburg - South Africa's top-ranked women's tennis player, Chanelle Scheepers, is confident ahead of the final of the WTA Swedish Open in Bastad on Sunday.

The unseeded South African beat another unseeded player, Jana Cepelova of Slovakia 7-5, 6-2 in the semi-finals on Saturday to book her place in the final.

"Today was a tough match. We started out going back and forth, and as we'd never played each other I didn't really know her game," Scheepers said.

"We were trying to figure each other out, but I was happy with the way I ended the first set and the second set."

Scheepers' previous final was the Chinese WTA Guangzhou Open in 2011 which she won for her first WTA Tour title.

"I'm really happy to be in my second WTA final. I've had some tough matches along the way but I competed hard and it feels great to have gotten through them," said Scheepers.

On Sunday in the final Scheepers will meet unseeded German, Mona Barthel. The two have played each other three times in the past with Scheepers winning twice.

Their last meeting was in the second round of the WTA Hobart event in Australia in 2013 which Barthel won.

"The final will be tough against Barthel. I've played her a few times already and we've always had close matches, but I'll just go into the final and try to play like I have in every match this week," said Scheepers.
