Bucs to claim half of Senzo's insurance

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates chairperson Irvin Khoza has confirmed that Senzo Meyiwa’s insurance has been paid out and ensured that his family and the necessary people involved will be contacted.

However, it has been reported that Meyiwa’s family is set to receive only HALF of his insurance payout whilst the other half will be given to the Buccaneers.

According to the Sowetan, Meyiwa’s family complained that they only found out via the media that the payout was made.

The South Africa Football Players Union general secretary, Thulaganyo Gaoshubelwe, admitted that they are fighting the insurance policy as they would love families to receive all the money when it is paid out if such a matter occurs.

"One of the things we are fighting as a union is the insurance policy of the PSL, which pays half of the dividends to the club," Gaoshubelwe said.

"We would love to see the PSL paying all the money to the family of a player if he's deceased. In case he's declared unfit to play, he should also receive all his money."

It has been revealed that players who are permanently injured or die are covered by the insurance.

If such an incident occurs then the player’s salary is multiplied by 60 months.

However, there is a limit of R4m to what the insurance can payout.
