Cape Town - The Central Gauteng Lions Cricket Board (CGL) has called for Cricket South Africa (CSA) CEO Thabang Moroe and the entire board to be removed.
This comes after the CGL Board met at Wanderers on Thursday evening, deciding unanimously that Moroe and the CSA Board resign and that an interim Board and management team be put in place immediately.
The CGL also recommended that a forensic audit into CSA be undertaken.
It has been a disastrous week for Moroe and CSA.
An ongoing legal battle with the South African Cricketers Association (SACA), the suspension of senior officials Clive Eksteen, Corrie van Zyl and Naasei Appiah without any detailed explanation, losing an arbitration hearing against the Western Province Cricket Association after having placed the union under administration and the absence of any permanent staff in charge of the national Proteas just three weeks out from the start of a home Test series against England have all contributed towards a national outcry against the current administration from the cricket fraternity.
Things reached boiling point over the weekend when Moroe and CSA revoked the accreditation of five local cricket journalists because of how they were covering ongoing events at the organisation.
That decision was then overturned 24 hours later, but it fuelled criticism from all corners with major sponsors Standard Bank expressing their "grave concern" at CSA's administration.
Since then, former CSA (previously UCB) bosses Norman Arendse, Ali Bacher and Haroon Lorgat have all publicly criticised the current regime.
According to an IOL report on Thursday, the resolutions have been supported by seven other provinces; Western Province, KwaZulu Natal, South Western Districts, North West, Limpopo, Northern Cape, Eastern Province.
"The CGL Board pride themselves on solid corporate governance that is in place at the Union, both past and present, and always with the game of cricket at the heart and forefront of all that is implemented both on the field and off," the statement read.
"The CGL Board concludes with a united voice that the above three steps need to urgently be undertaken in order to best serve the game of cricket in South Africa.
"We as a Board are confident with change that hope will be created and confidence restored in the beautiful game of cricket that we know so many proud South Africans love."
