Gert Smal linked with coaching job in Wales

Cape Town - WP Rugby’s director of rugby, Gert Smal, is being linked with a job at Welsh club Cardiff Blues.

According to the Wales Online website, the Blues have held talks with Smal regarding their head coaching position.

The PRO14 outfit have been searching for a new head coach since Danny Wilson opted not to renew his contract and chose instead to take up a new challenge with English club Wasps.

Smal has been the director of rugby at Western Province and the Stormers since 2014, having previously coached the team between 2000 and 2005.

He was Springbok assistant coach between 2004 and 2007 and was Ireland’s forwards coach from 2008-2013.
