Injury-hit Blitzboks down NZ, into London Sevens SF

Cape Town - The Blitzboks are into the semi-finals of the London Sevens after downing New Zealand 14-7 at Twickenham.

After a strong start from New Zealand, it was the Blitzboks who opened the scoring securing the ball from a loose pass and surging down the field before Ryan Oosthuizen crashed over the line for a converted score.

Although the pace remained frantic for the rest of the half, both sides made mistakes at crucial times and the teams went into the break with South Africa leading 7-0.

The second half started breathlessly with New Zealand keeping the ball for two minutes and the Blitzboks tackling with intent.

Another turnover gifted the ball to South Africa and Justin Geduld spotted space out to the left.

He found Dylan Sage who raced away to score.

Geduld landed the conversion for the Blitzboks to lead 14-0 with four minutes remaining.

New Zealand were next to score, surging down the field to set Dylan Collier over in the left-hand corner.

Crucially, Tim Mikkelson missed the conversion and South Africa led 14-5 with a minute remaining.

It was not enough time  for New Zealand to force a comeback and South Africa secured victory to move into the semi-finals where they will face host England who edged out Australia 21-17 at 16:10 SA time.
