James Small lets rip at Zane Kirchner

Cape Town - Former Springbok wing James Small has launched a scathing Twitter attack on current fullback Zane Kirchner.

Small took to Twitter in the aftermath of the Boks' embarrassing 34-32 defeat to minnows Japan in their Rugby World Cup opener in Brighton on Saturday.

Small, 46, who is doing commentary for SABC during the tournament, wrote, "Zane Kirshner does not belong on an international pitch!!!"

Small followed that tweet with an explanation of what went wrong and confirmation in his belief that the Boks have reached the lowest point in their illustrious history, writing: "Biggest disappointment.. Lack of urgency intensity and accuracy from senior players.. Reputations don't win games.. Lowest point in history!"

Small concluded with a subtle dig at coach Heyneke Meyer, writing: "Congrats Eddie Jones.. Just shows what a proper coach can do!!"

Small, who made his Test debut against New Zealand in 1992, played 47 matches in the Green and Gold before retiring in 1997.

Small was a World Cup winner in 1995.
