Pirates yet to assign Davids' brother into an official position

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates administrative officer Floyd Mbele says the club are yet to assign Maahier Davids into an official position after his recent appointment.

The up-and-coming coach was brought on board along with his brother, Fadlu, who is now serving as an assistant to coach Milutin Sredojevic along with Rulani Mokwena.

Both arrived from Maritzburg United having been sacked due to the Team of Choice's poor form. Muhsin Ertugral has since been put in charge in Pietermaritzburg.

The pair were present at Pirates' final training session ahead of their CAF Champions League Group B clash with Horoya on Friday evening. Kickoff is 18:00 at Orlando Stadium.

Mbele told Kickoff: "The team is still going to determine what his actual role is. Obviously, you do see that there are a number of competitions and projects that the club is involved in.

"There's the Multichoice Diski team and other projects that are there, but I think his position will be clearly defined as we go along.

When asked whether Maahier Davids could be the long term successor to head of youth Augusto Palacios, he concluded: "Successor to what? No, no, no.

"That's just assumptions. But these things will soon be clearly defined. What was important is to keep a lot of focus now on the first team and how we are progressing, because there are all these challenged ahead - CAF, League, Nedbank, so it's important to make sure that we don't lose sight of that.

"But we will be able to deal with it in the not so distant future, where we'll be able to sort out and explain exactly what happens with the junior teams."
