The events that have unfolded in the DA have shown that Zille has more influence than Maimane. He serves at her pleasure, writes Ralph Mathekga.
High level clouds. Mild.
South African retail giant, Edcon, is selling its shareholding in its Zimbabwe based clothing chain Edgars to Mauritius incorporated entity SSCG Africa Holdings, as the struggling group realigns operations to stay afloat.
A rescue deal has been struck, saving one of SA’s largest retailers but impacting listed property, writes finweek journalist Glenda Williams.
Edcon has 30 000 employees, a supply chain that includes 750 companies and floor space that accounts for a 10th of the occupancy in the country’s biggest shopping malls, the most of any company.
Liberty Two Degrees says it adjusted the value of its tiny portion of Edcon on its books – by more than 30% – because it is being prudent and conservative, but Edgars stores are actually "meeting expectations."
Edcon joined in the Nelson Mandela Centenary celebrations by creating memorabilia that included clothing items – and one of those lines is now deeply discounted.
