Cape Town - The Apple iPhone will be available in South Africa on 15 November, the local reseller has announced.

Apple launched the latest version of the iPhone on 10 September 2013, and the device went on sale on 20 September in selected markets.

For the first time, Apple introduced two versions of the device: The 5s and the 5c designed to appeal to cost conscious consumers.

Apple had a successful launch of the iPhone, and the company boasted that sales broke records in key markets when the pair of devices launched.

"This is our best iPhone launch yet - more than nine million new iPhones sold - a new record for first weekend sales," said CEO Tim Cook.

Some complained of delays, particularly of the top-end 5s, but Apple assured customers that orders would be met.

South African customers will have to register their intent to by the new iPhone on the website. Vodacom is the only mobile operator at the moment that has a registration process set up on its portal.

But Apple may not have it all its own way in SA. Competitors have worked to steal Apple glory by predicting the US-based company's launch cycle.

Nokia and HTC are all expected to release new devices within weeks to exploit the rush to buy new products before 25 December.

Nokia will launch the Lumia 1020 on 14 November and it is expected that HTC will also launch a new device this month.

Samsung already is on a pervasive marketing campaign for its new Galaxy Note 3 phablet in SA.
