Cape Town - Apple announced on Wednesday that it had updated its iMac range of computers with better processors and graphics.

The California-based company included an Intel 2.7GHz quad core i5 processor in the entry level iMac with a 54.6cm display.

For graphics, the company has included Iris Pro integrated graphics on the entry level machine, but on the higher end iMacs, users can expect Intel Core i5 processors up to 3.4GHz and NVIDIA GeForce 700 series graphics.

The refresh comes soon after the company launched the latest version of the iPhone which sold in excess of nine million in its first weekend.

The computers ship with 8GB of RAM and 1TB hard drive, but customers can upgrade this to 32GB of RAM and a 3TB drive.

Apple also claims that the new Wi-Fi protocols can deliver up to three times the speed on standard networks.

Prices for the entry-level iMac start at $1 299 and go up to $1 999 for the version with the i5 processor. This excludes any customisation options.

It is unclear when, and what price, the machines will be available in SA.
