Cape Town - Online shopping in South Africa is set to receive a boost with the launch of a Facebook integrated platform allowing users to send gifts.

Citymob launched its gifting programme that is integrated with Facebook so that users can send gits via the birthday reminders on the social network.

"There has been a big shift toward online shopping in SA and we saw an opportunity to enhance and grow our business by offering something completely new and unique," said Citymob co-founder Luke Jedeikin.

Online shopping in SA is growing and a recent MasterCard survey found that 91% of local users who shop online are highly satisfied with their overall experience.

The survey also found that 76% of shoppers return to online stores where they have shopped before.

Citymob says that shoppers can choose exact amounts to send to recipients and the company notifies both the giver and receiver of the transaction.

Users can also purchase a gift and set a delivery date so that gifts can arrive promptly.
