French wiki ban triggers stampede

Paris - Internet users were flocking on Sunday to a web entry about a French military radio complex after the country's intelligences services allegedly tried to shut it down.

In a statement accusing the government of censorship the foundation explained that the French domestic intelligence agency DCRI had approached it in March to demand that it delete the entry, saying the page contained classified information.

The page, which describes the site and includes a mention of underground defences against a chemical, biological or nuclear attack, has also been translated into English.
