Cape Town - A new application will allow users to vote for their favourite city in the New7Wonders city campaign.

The organisation launched the new application on Thursday and it will enable users to vote for their city of choice in the global campaign.

"We are constantly experimenting with different ways of delivering our message, allowing us to open up our campaigns to new audiences. The launch of this app is an important step towards connecting with an even broader community on a range of expanding digital platforms with huge potential," said Bernard Weber, Founder-President of New7Wonders.

Durban is one of the 28 finalist cities, but is in competition with Athens, Barcelona and London, among others.

The application allows users to browse news and images from the cities as well as share the voting process on social media platforms, in addition to voting.

The competition highlights the move toward mass urbanisation as the Earth's population grows.

According to the UN, population growth will exceed 10 billion by 2083, and most that will be in cities.

The application is available on the Google Play Store as well as the Apple App Store.
