Cape Town – Nokia announced that its free music streaming service, Nokia Music+, is now available in South Africa.

Nokia Music+ also added the ability to download unlimited mixes for offline playback and unlimited track skips to the existing free Nokia Music offering.

Users has the option to select higher quality audio when connecting via Wi-Fi, lyric streaming for many tracks and they can listen to Nokia Music via Internet-enabled devices including a pc or tablet.

"There are a massive number of local artists featured on the Nokia Music store, including the likes of Prime Circle, Locnville, Jack Parrow and Kurt Darren to name a few," Leo McKay, head of communications, Nokia South Africa, told News24.

McKay said: "With the a la carte Nokia Music Store, there are over 15 million DRM free tracks, both local and international, available to download. Nokia Music+ is a streaming music service, but makes use of the catalogue of the Nokia Music Store."

The current Nokia Music service, which allows users to create their own mixes or stream from playlists curated by an expert team of musicologists and international artists, as well as save mixes for offline playback; will continue to be available free of charge to Nokia Lumia owners, with no advertisements, registration or subscription.

Nokia Music+, which is exclusive to Nokia Lumia owners, is available for people to try free for seven days, and then at only R25 per month as a paid for update to the existing free service.
