Cape Town - Here's a solution looking for a problem: You want to run Android for some applications on your phone, but for other uses, you want an alternative - say Mozilla's FXOS.

The answer may lie in the Revolution smartphone being produced by Geeksphone.

The device is near production and the phone will allow a user to boot to Android 4.4 KitKat as well FXOS (Boot2Gecko).

Geeksphone, the company behind the Blackphone, also announced that the price of the Revolution has declined to €199 from €222.31.

There have been a number of phones powered by the Firefox OS since Mozilla announced the launch of the software intended to broaden the ecosystem of mobile devices.

Following the public launch of the OS in 2012, ZTE produced the first device in 2013 and Geeksphone has been the most prolific exponent of the software.

The Revolution comes with 4GB of onboard storage and 1GB of RAM, though it does have a micro-SD card slot.

It has an 8 megapixel camera and a 12cm display.

The Spanish-based company says that the Revolution, which has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, is capable of multi-tasking.

The Geeksphone Revolution is available on the company's website.
