Event: Arts on Main open week

Celebrated as a cultural hub for arts in Johannesburg, Arts on Main artists and galleries have put together a special program of events to run over the weekend of the Johannesburg art fair, 26- 29 September.

The event celebrates and showcases the arts and creative production happening on an ongoing basis at Arts on Main.

During this open weekend, opportunities to view the studios and workshops, visit the exhibitions, and partake in artists walkabouts will be on offer.

There will also be a curated sculpture show in the public areas of the centre as well as culinary specialities at the restaurants and Sunday market.

The following galleries and shows will be on display on the weekend:
“Monotype Project 2013”, featuring work by Maja Maljevic, Quinten Williams, Beth
Armstrong, Mongezi Ncaphayi and Tegan Bristow at David Krut Projects 

ACT1: Aerolithe Illusion” at the Goethe on Main"

“I was shot in Joburg”, an ongoing photography exhibition

“paint+”, a selection of paintings primarily by Brundyn + Gonsalves at Nirox Projects. Opening 25 September at 6pm

“Rural Rhythms: a group show” at Parts and Labour

“Animal Farm”, Laetitia Lups at Studio 23

“The Cube Collective” at Rubix Cube

“Sculpture at Arts on Main”, featuring the work of Kim Liebermann, Gordon Froud,

Hannelie Coetzee, Louis Oliver and more in the common areas at Arts on Main.

In addition, there will also be public art walks conducted of all the public art sites in the area as well as a full inner city mural tour focusing on Hannelie Coetzee’s
work in the inner city, led by the artist herself. SMACK republic Brewing Co will be hosting an open studio of sorts with beer brewing demonstrations and tastings
throughout the weekend.
