ANA dreamliners grounded

2012-07-24 15:10
Five of Japanese Airline ANA's 11 new Dreamliner aircraft have been found to have faults with their Rolls-Royce engines, according to reports on Travelmole.

According to the report, the launch customer for the Dreamliner 787 aircraft last September ANA has found a potential corrosion problem inside the gearbox of the Trent 1000 engines. These are expecte to be replaced, causing two of the aircraft to be out of service for several weeks.

Other airlines operating the Dreamliner 787, but with General Electric engines, include Japan Airlines, as well as Thomson Airways - set to be the first UK customer in 2013.

Rolls-Royce said: "We have identified that a component on Trent 1000 engines being fitted to Boeing 787 Dreamliners has a reduced service life. As a proactive measure, this component is being replaced in a number of engines. No further 787s would be delivered to customers with the potential corrosion problem."

If you'd like to win a free flight on Thomson Airways' 787 (valid for UK airports only from May 2013) then enter their competition to name one of the Dreamliner's by Tweeting suggestions to @ThomsonHolidays using the hashtag #nameourplane.
