Airline breaks Joost's wheelchair

2013-04-25 12:00

Cape Town - Joost van der Westhuizen expressed his disgust with Mango's careless attitude on Twitter after his wheelchair was damaged by the airline earlier this week.

The former Springbok rugby player suffering from motor neuron disease tweeted on Tuesday night:

Mango responded to the tweet, saying:

Beeld reports that he was on a flight from Durban to Johannesburg when the unfortunate incident took place.

Mango spokesperson Hein Kaiser confirmed that the wheelchair was indeed damaged, but that the airline had taken it in for repairs and given Van der Westhuizen a temporary replacement.

According to Anthony Ghillino, project manager from the Western Cape QuadPara Association wheelchairs are normally the last luggage to be loaded onto a flight, as disabled people are normally the last to board.

Because of this, wheelchairs are often loaded hurriedly, making them susceptible to damages.
