Ft Lauderdale – South African Airways (SAA) has announced that it is resuming its non-stop flights between OR Tambo International - Johannesburg and JFK International Airport - New York.

The non-stop flight will resume on March 9th, three weeks ahead of its original schedule of March 28th the airline said.

“We’re pleased to be able to resume the northbound non-stop flight ahead of schedule,” said Marc Cavaliere, executive vice president, North America for South African Airways.

SAA passengers using the reinstated direct route to New York can expect to arrive in New York in the early morning, allowing customers to quickly connect on flights to points throughout North America.

The nonstop flight schedule is as follows:

- Flight SA203 departs Johannesburg at 20:25, arrives New York JFK at 06:40 the next day.

Flight SA204 departs New York JFK at 23:15, arrives Johannesburg at 08:00  the next day.
Last year the national carrier introduced a schedule change on its flights between Johannesburg and New York by adding a stop in Dakar, Senegal. The refuelling stop caused many travellers to complain that it was a major deterrent to choosing SAA on this route.

The struggling national carrier, which has just received a government backed extension of its two-year guarantee of R5 million issued in 2012, is working through a turnaround plan aimed at returning it to profitability.

The airline announced in November 2013 that it would also be cutting its Johannesburg–Buenos Aires in early 2014 and has admitted all of its long-haul network, which includes services to London, Frankfurt, New York and Beijing, are loss-making.
Customers with questions about the flight schedule or connecting flights should contact South African Airways’ North America Reservations Center at (800) 722-9675.
