Island: Variety of locales on Mahe

A selection of unique locales where you can meet the Seychellois people and experience a taste of island style way of living, accompanied by a serenade of Creole music.

Bazar Labrinn is legendary among travellers and locals alike. This is where you can stock up on vegetables, fruit, and local delicacies as well as shop for souvenirs and sample traditional snacks and beverages - all within an authentic Seychellois Creole ambiance.

Bazar Ovan provides another excellent opportunity for locals and visitors to mingle and participate in a true celebration of the vibrant Seychellois Creole culture to the rhythms of Creole music which takes place in the pastoral south of the island.

Victoria Bazar has an authentic and lively ambiance that is reflective of the Seychellois Creole way of life where vendors sell a variety of goods ranging from arts and crafts to exotic culinary delicacies and beverages to the accompaniment of local musicians in an atmosphere that's strictly Creole.

Feast of the assumption of Mary, 15 August 2013

Island: La Digue

This catholic festival of Mary's assumption into heaven is celebrated in colour, style and flavour on the island of Ladigue, attracting Seychellois from all across the arphichelago.

As tradition goes, the religious celebration starts with an open air mass at La Grotto, followed by the solemn procession with the statue of the Virgin Mary being led through the streets of La Digue, to the church where the remainder of the ceremony takes place.

After this the fun begins, with a variety of events including the duck race, dehusking of coconut competitions and Poto Lagres (a competition where the ‘brave and strong' climb greasy poles).

South East Monsoon Sailfish tournament, 31 August 2013

Island: Victoria, Mahe

A hugely popular event among avid deep sea fisherman, the South East Monsoon Sailfish tournament is organized by the Marine Charter Association of Seychelles and takes place between 05:00 and 17:00. The starting point is the Marine Charter which is located in Victoria on the island of Mahe. The day is sure to be packed with loads of fun event. 

World Tourism Day, 27 September 2013

Island: Mahe

World Tourism Day is celebrated around the globe on the 27th September each year. The day is preceded by a week of activities aimed at showcasing the tropical paradise's attractions. One of the highlights of the week is the Seychelles Ball, a formal event where tourism professionals can mix and mingle.

Deepavali, November 3

Island: Mahe

Deepavali (also known as Diwali) is the Hindu festival of lights and signifies the advent of joy and happiness. While the main festivities - fireworks, candles and the handing out of sweetmeants - take place on November 3 this year, the five days leading up to it are also celebrated. The Hindu Council of Seychelles arranges a grand cultural programme with firecrackers and sweets at a specific location every year.

La Digue Offshore Tournament, 12 October 2013

Island: La Digue

This one-day fishing competition, held in October, includes bottom fishing as well as trolling and draws fishing aficionados from far and wide. Prizes are awarded for different categories and a festive atmosphere makes it a fun event to attend from the shore as well.

Festival Kreol, 25 -31 October 2013

Island: Mahe

You can hear it in the music. You can feel it in the rhythm. You can taste it in the food. Festival Kreol is the biggest and most important event of the Seychelles cultural calendar. It offers the visitor a fascinating week full of the colours, sounds, flavours and fragrances of one corner of the Creole world that treasures its traditions while embracing the opportunities of the present.
