1. Pollsmoor mess, Cape Town

Situated in the heart of Pollsmoor Maximum Security Prison, restaurant Pollmoor Mess is said to have a pretty decent menu.

It’s not exactly a space for children, family, dates, or anything liberating, but it’s the product of the prisoners rehabilitation programme.

Taking your orders and serving your meals will be none other than Pollmoor prison’s most well-behaved inmates. Bucket list alert anyone?

2. Modern Toilet, Taiwan

What started out as a small toilet themed ice cream shop – selling ice cream in containers that resembles squat toilets, quickly elevated into what is now known as the Modern Toilet Restaurant. The success of the restaurant, which has several divisions opened in Taiwan, is owed to its humorous spin on washroom facilities and continuous innovative developments.

3. Dick’s last resort, Las Vegas

If you have any inclination for listening to sarcastic remarks from waiters, watching pranks pulled from across the table, and even getting involved in some dark-humoured jokes during your meal, you’ll feel right at home at Dick’s Last Resort. The restaurant’s official site posted that their atmosphere will make you feel as if you’re temporarily breaking the rules and getting away with it.

4. Dans De noir, London

Here’s a place that cannot be graded on the presentation of their meals. Surrounded by complete darkness, this eatery will require you to feel your way to your tabling seating, and rely fully on your sense of taste and smell, as well as the quality of the food to bring colour to your meal.

5. Chill out Cafe, Dubai

What may seem completely outrageous to the rest of the world is probably the smartest initiative in Dubai’s restaurant history. As the desert sun can be searing, Cafe Chill out, a human refrigerator, is exquisitely furnished with ice sculptures, allowing you to chill out.

6. Ithaa, Maldives

With the most unusual location, fancy restaurant Ithaa, provides the most exquisite scenery. Translated into English, Ithaa means ‘mother of pearl’, and situated five metres below the surface of the sea. Imagine sitting in there without a drop of water touching your skin; watching sea creatures swim by while you eat your meal – that’s pretty cool.

7. Witches in Britches, Melbourne

Witches and Warlocks, spell binding and conjuring, are only some of the words accustomed to Melbourne theatre restaurant, Witches and Britches. With a full night’s itinerary plan, guests should expect a horrific themed dinner setting, followed by a stage production and then a disco to conclude the evening.

8. Twin stars cafe and bar, Moscow

Prepare to get twice the service for the value of one meal. Meet the diner that only employs twins – identical twins. Waiters, barmen and any other service providers working at this Russian eatery, come in twos. Mail online reports that the restaurant’s owner was inspirited by Soviet Film, Kingdom of crooked mirrors, to carry out the theme.

9. Madam Zingara theatre of Dreams, Johannesburg

One of a kind dinner theatre event, Madam Zingara theatre of Dreams, has taken South Africa by storm. Much like the release of Alice in Wonderland (1933), which occupied American’s during the great depression, Madam Zingara serves as an escape into what the latter’s official site calls, a timeless land.

10. ‘S Baggers, Nuremberg

What may seem like an usually futuristic approach to dining, could be the way forward.
