Madiba tributes around the globe

2013-12-11 08:34
The world has joined South Africa in mourning the passing of former state president Nelson Mandela.

Tributes to the national icon have been popping up all over the globe - in the form of flowers, candles, images, light displays and street art.

Locally, Madiba's Houghton home has become a central point for commemoration in Johannesburg, along with Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton and Vilakazi Street in Soweto.

In Cape Town the Grand Parade has drawn hundreds of tributes and so has the Nelson Mandela statue at the V&A Waterfront.

A total of 69 books of condolence have also been distributed across the country, allowing members of the public who cannot attend a commemorative event, to write a message to the former statesman.
