Malaysia to use new passport screening system

Kuala Lumpur - Malaysian authorities have announced a new Advanced Passenger Screening System (APSS) that will blacklist and bar anybody with a criminal record from coming into the country. 

The reports the Malaysian Immigration Department expects to implement the new system by mid-June.

Malaysia Home Affairs Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the system is one of several new security protocols being put in place following the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.

The country was revisiting all its Standard Operating Procedures, specifically security at entry points of Kuala Lumpur International Airport and the new APSS allows authorities to quickly check the background of passengers  through their passports.

 Those with a criminal background would be blacklisted and barred from coming to Malaysia Hamidi said.
