Send your teddy on tour

2013-10-23 12:32

Tokyo - Feeling a little cooped up, but can't afford to take a break right now? There's a simple solution - send your favourite teddy off into the world and live vicariously through fluffy by following his/her travels on Facebook.

Gadling reports that a Japanese travel agency for stuffed animals, Unagi Travel, has been taking plush toys on trips for the last three years so that owners can experience the world through their button eyes.

Run by Sonoe Azuma, Unagi has taken no less than 200 teddies on trips, including bike tours of Tokyo and a cross-Pacific journey to the United States. Many of these stuffed toys' owners are physically impaired, making travel a difficult undertaking.

During these trips, Sonoe posts pictures of the jetsetting teddies on the Unagi Travel Facebook page
Tours are priced between $20 and $55, depending on what the toys get up to and there is even the option to send yours off on a mystery tour.

Huffington Post reports that Azuma organizes more than 10 trips every month and attributed 40% of her business to repeat customers.

Do you have a travel mascot who accompanies you on your travels (or goes alone)? Send us a photo to
