Terror in toothpaste tubes?

Sochi – With only one day to go till the Olympic Games kick off in the Russian city of Sochi, security forces are on high alert for any terror threats.  

ABC reports that the Department of Homeland Security in the US has even gone so far as issuing a warning to airlines travelling to Russia for the Olympics to be on the lookout for toothpaste containers.

Yup, that’s right. Apparently toothpaste containers are being used to hold ingredients that can be used in the construction of bombs aboard flights.  

The department said that they are not aware of any specific threat and couldn’t provide any further details about the warning.  

It may, however, be linked to the arrests of two women in France. The women, reportedly 23- and 30-years-old, were of Chechen descent.

Security in Sochi, Russia, where the Olympics are scheduled to start Friday, has been high for months due to the threat posed to the Games by Islamic militants in the region. Last month Russian authorities announced no liquids would be allowed on planes to Sochi.
