The wallet experiment

2013-10-04 15:49
There can be nothing worse than losing your wallet, car keys or heaven forbid your precious travel documents like your passport during a trip.

We've all had a whoops moment at some point or other. Not only that, some places we visit are more prone to pickpocktets than others. Watch this video where a child is seen stealing a phone for instance.

Reader's Digest recently embarked on an experiment to find the world's most honest cities. How exactly do you go about measuring honesty around the globe. By 'losing' 192 wallets of course. They did so in 16 cities and produced the map below to indicate their findings.

Each wallet contained the $50 equivalent of the local currency, as well as a name, phone number, family photo, coupons and business cards. According to their social experiment Helsinki, Finland, is one of the most honest cities in the world. Lisbon, Portugal, not so much. Take a look and then tell us if you've had any lost valuables returned during a trip or if you've been the honest Harry who did the returning. Did you get a reward? Email us on
