2012-08-13 10:58
We caught up with Matt Long, one of the bloggers brought to South Africa as part of the I Love Cape Town Campaign. Matt describes himself a typical Gen-X professional who simply loves all things related to travel. With his passion and unique perspective he has simply made the most out of the travel experience through blogging - here's how...

What moment during your #LoveCapeTown trip do you most want to share with your Landlopers audience?

Matt Long
"That’s hard to say, there are so many. But I think more than anything I want to portray both the natural beauty of the city as well as its incredible diversity.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome since starting Landlopers?
"Making it a full time job was not without some struggle and it’s still something I work on everyday.

Tell us about your most recent trip, before coming to South Africa?
"I spent a week in Saskatchewan, Canada explore both the city of Saskatoon as well as the province in general. I was surprised by all of the great outdoors activities and think it’s a destination which doesn’t get enough attention.

What’s your top 5 travel bucket list? How close are you to realizing it?
"Well, I have to say I’m not a big fan of bucket lists. Ideally I want to go everywhere, but there are some top places I’d love to visit soon.

In your opinion, the travel trend to watch in 2013 would be?

"I think people want to include purposeful travel in their holiday plans. By that I mean they want to include some voluntourism aspects that may not define the entire trip, but are an important aspect. Some hotels are even including these as tour options for guests.

What’s been the most useful travel innovation for you?
"Well I love technology and the TripIt app is amazing. It keeps track of all of my travel information so I don’t have to worry about print outs and confirmation numbers.

Your biggest extravagance while travelling would be?
"I love a nice hotel and so I tend to spend more on that aspect of the trip than others.

What would your absolute worst travel nightmare entail?
"Ultimately as long as you have your wallet and passport you will be fine, so losing these would indeed be a nightmare.

Who would you most like to sit next to on a plane and why?
Ultimately someone rich and famous because it would mean I had been upgraded to first class.

Best piece of advice you’d give to aspiring travel bloggers?
You must have passion and dedication or you will not be successful.

Complete the following:

Waking up... in Paris this weekend would be awesome because .. t’s one of my favorite cities.

The one place... I’d really like to spend more time in is New Zealand. I’ve been there once but I desperately want to return."
