Japanese cafes serve bunny cuddles with coffee

2012-04-30 10:45
How about some cute with that coffee? Or some bunny love with that burger?

This is exactly what you can expect from Japan's latest food trend: the bunny café.

Huffington Post reports that the country famous for its Kawaii (cute) culture, has taken things to a new level with this latest development.

In an interview with CNN, manager of the Usagi Cafe Ohisama (or "Rabbit Sun Cafe") in Nagoya, explained that the Japanese public has been so receptive to rabbit cafes because of the recent spate of tragedies - the 2011 tsunami and earthquake in particular - that have befallen the country.

"There are wounds that human beings can't treat but the rabbit can," she told CNN."Rabbits can comfort people without words."

Although bunnies seem to be the stars of the moment, with more than a dozen of these cafes popping up here there and everywhere, animal cafes have been a trend in Japan for quite some time.

Due to strict housing regulations and small apartments, many people are not able to own pets and rely on these restaurants for their fair share of creature comfort. While cats are the usual furry occupants, a reptile lounge in Yokohama and monkey bartenders in Tokyo are also favourites among animal lovers.
