No doubt your Facebook feeds and Twitter timelines were full of the undeniably catchy opening line of this famous English folk rhyme on Tuesday, as people around the globe prepared to commemorate the foiling of Guy Fawkes' attempt to blow up England's House of Parliament in 1605.

This rather strange celebration has somehow managed to stand the test of time, and year after year, people use it as an excuse to indulge in flashy and fiery festivities, from fireworks to blazing bonfires.
