Africa is home to some of the most unique natural attractions and phenomenon, with tourism to the continent growing at 4% annually, ahead of tourism in advanced economies, according South African Tourism Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk.
But often violence and political instability form the back drop to these destinations, Kenya being a perfect case in point.
With the terrorist mall attack the US government was quick to issue a travel advisory warning travellers against visiting the country. Less than a week ago it reinstate this advisory saying it had received information that more terrorists attacks were being planned.
Many agencies are of the view that the US government's caution to its citizens against visiting Kenya is unjustified, with experts saying the terrorist attack risk is the same whether you are in London, New York, Paris or Nairobi.
Add to this Kenyan security forces continue to be on high alert.
We decided to find out what our readers perceptions are about the safety of visiting Kenya.
There were a few who were quick to admit they feel scared but it seems the bulk of our travel community is in favour of heading to the land of the Maasai Mara, Lamu island and Mount Kenya.

Holders of a South African passport do not need to apply for a visa if visiting Kenya for a period less than one month.
Otherwise a multiple entry visa can be obtained at a cost of $110 or R1 100 at R10/$. Kenya is three hours ahead of South Africa and while there are no strict dress codes, the coastal areas are predominantly Muslim in tradition and visitors are advised to dress conservatively out of respect, when venturing away from the tourist resorts and hotels.
