A News24 Travel reader claims he has spend more than R50 000 in legal fees thanks to the "absurd" new visa restriction.

"We operate a business across 8 sub-saharan states from South Africa. I travel to Kenya and Nigeria for business and find the VISA protocol from Nigeria absurd. It is clearly a retaliation for the restrictions placed on Nigerians travelling to SA.

This new Kenyan move is very disruptive, I am supposed to be travelling now for urgent business, but my New SA passport is still stuck at Nigerian consulate in Nairobi, old passport has been cancelled. I need to get to Kenya but will probably get my passport back around the 1st – so now will have to fly to Pretoria to get a Kenyan passport delaying my even further.

We have been trying to bring in an executive with rare skills and the new immigration legislation has completely disrupted our efforts to the point of giving up completely. We have already spent R50 000 on legal fees to try find our way through the new legislation. More reasons why business hoping to grow in Africa are compelled to operate out of Mauritius or other more business friendly states. "
