Photo of the Day: ‘Everyone needs a place to go!’

2013-11-20 16:09

Yesterday, the United Nations General Assembly appointed 19 November as World Toilet Day, an initiative with the aim of improving sanitation and relative issues such as water management and open-air defecation around the world.

A stream of tweets with the hash tag #WorldToiletDay, trended on twitter yesterday, as the UN stressed that everyone needs a place to ‘go’-defecate. Among those in support of the initiative was multi-billionaire, Bill Gates, who shared an infographic of a solar powered toilet that recycles and sterilizes water, with his followers. This tweet alone had over 800 retweets and over 500 favourites - a positive result that a world stance in support of sanitation would contribute to saving lives.
