Photo of the Day: Pets as travel buddies

2013-11-26 12:58

Your pets are just as much family as any human being that you love. So do they deserve the same treatment when travelling?

According to South African Airways, not exactly.  Your inexperienced travelling friend(s), as SAA compassionately refers to them, will be weighed and classified as extra baggage, which excludes any free baggage allowance.

The airline also announced on its website that due to infrastructure problems at OR Tambo Airport, live animals will not be accepted as excess baggage on all international flights, with immediate effect. This means you will have to leave your pet behind this holiday, opting instead to travel alone.

Dogs, cats, reptiles and primates visiting South Africa are all required to be marked with identifying microchip implants. Those pets without microchips will be placed under quarantine at the port of entry.

Today’s photo is by instagram user, Sha0020 who loves to have her dog with her wherever she goes.
