'This baggage pilfering plague has to stop'

News24 Travel reader, Adriano Ciccone, contacted us to share his story in response to the piece detailing alleged baggage tampering captured on camera at Cape Town International Airport.

"I just read your article and would have loved to have seen the video but it has since been removed from You Tube.

I flew back from Cape Town International to Joburg on Mango, however not only did they send my luggage to Durban but when they eventually delivered it to us, they had stolen items out of my partners bag and I could see they had attempted to gain entry to mine too.

My issue is that this has been a plague all over SA, all the airports are at fault, we the passengers have been complaining for years, there was an expose on Carte Blanche a few years back and still I feel like we no better off than before. You pay a lot of money to fly around SA, and they still argue the point, don't place valuables in your luggage, then when something goes wrong, it is somehow our fault! You can't always store everything in your carry on luggage, its unreasonable and just not feasible.

It's insane, you pay for a service and their staff/the airport staff help themselves to a bonus. It is disgusting.

I hope things will get better but after the amount of time that has passed, I fear it never will and the fact that South Africans just accept things for what they are is heart breaking and very frustrating, things will never get better if we all just accept below par service and crime as just being part of everyday life!"
