Eskom has instituted rolling blackouts across the country, and while the power cuts are a serious affair for our economy - we thought we’d come up with a few suggestions of what to do when your neck of woods is hit by a power cut.

-    No time like the present to pretend you’re camping – indulge the kids and pitch a tent. Haul out those flash lights and gas stoves if necessary.

-    If you’re not affected by any heavy downpour (see pics of a the Kruger floods here), a mid-week braai is definitely in order.

-   An obvious one would be to have that romantic candle-lit dinner – if you're not in the mood to braai, a cheese and wine could be just as good.

-    It’s the perfect time to have a boardgames evening or even an unplugged karaoke session. More wine, less cheese anybody?!

-    Guilt free ice-cream eating. It’s going to melt if you don’t, right!?

-    Go for a hike. No battery life need - but you will more than likely feel all powered up. So we're told.

-    Have a moonlight picnic. After dinner you can have a Gravity-like moment and stare up at the universe in all its splendour, sans artificial lights and sound.

-    Go to bed and sleep. Some of us seriously need to catch-up right?

-    Go to bed and have some fun. Enough said.
