Richard Branson's Ulusaba lion cubs

Richard Branson recently spent time at his Ulusaba Private Game Reserve is set in the heart of the Sabi Sand reserve on the border of the Kruger National Park.

Cape Town - The Mother City's beautiful scenery and spirited locals seem to have won Virgin group founder and super businessman, Sir Richard Branson's heart over the weekend, as he took part in the Pick n Pay Cape Argus Cycle Tour for the first time.

Shortly after completing the race, Branson posted a piece on his blog, praising the smooth organization, natural beauty and "crowds of local people... that swept everybody along with their cheering."

Branson spent the past two or so weeks in the country, checking in with the South African branch of Virgin and enjoying some down time in the bush, at Ulusaba Private Game Reserve.

He started his post, saying: "Wonderful to finish our trip to South Africa by riding in the Pick n Pay Cape Argus Cycle Tour. The atmosphere was extraordinary, the organisation was impeccable and all the competitors and spectators were brilliant."

According to the post, the 109km Cycle Tour was the first "real bike ride" Branson's attempted in over 50 years, but thanks to his active lifestyle of "kitesurfing, swimming, playing tennis and (on occasion!) going to Virgin health clubs" he managed to finish in a "decent time."

Branson was joined by his son-in-law, Freddie Andrews, Virgin's CEO Josh Bayliss and Virgin Active SA's CEO Ross Farragher Thomas as well as a team of riders from Virgin Active South Africa.

He ended off his post congratulating all those who were involved.
