Cape road closures update for Madiba week of mourning

The City of Cape Town has launched an extensive road closure plan to accommodate events marking the passing of former president, Nelson Mandela, and the week of mourning. The plan kicks in today, Monday 9 December and will be in place for the next two weeks.

Several roads in the CBD are affected by events marking Madiba’s passing. They are as follows:

-Longmarket and Corporation Streets

-Darling between Plein and Buitenkant Streets

- Parade Street between Longmarket and Darling Streets

-Corporation Street between Longmarket and Caledon Streets

Temporary closures and vehicular restrictions will be in effect in the following roads up until 00h00. Access will be given to residents and businesses only. In some roads, deliveries will be permitted.

-Adderley Street between Bureau and Strand Streets

-Castle Street between Darling and Strand Streets

-Church Street between Adderley and Burg Streets

-Hout Street between Burg and Adderley Streets

-Lower Plein Street Strand and Darling/ Castle Streets

-Parliament Street between Darling and Longmarket Streets

-Sir Lowry Road between Tennant and Darling Street

The Lead SA Campaign encourages all South Africans to drive with their headlights on throughout the day in an attempt to improve car visibility and road safety- so switch on your headlights and drive with care!
