It's that time of year when supermarket shelves are once again dripping with all things egg shaped and chocolatey. Chubby-cheeked Easter bunny illustrations decorate the walls and the cinnamon scent of hot cross buns drift down the aisles. 

So, since you can't escape it, you might as well embrace it! Here are a few fun Easter-themed events taking place around Johannesburg for young and old alike: 

LINDT Gold Bunny Outdoor Cinema Day, 15 March

Where: Shepstone gardens, Mountain View 

What: LINDT fans will be able to experience the joy of Easter with an open air viewing of an Easter time favourite, animated film ‘Hop.' Kids will also be able to join in on an Easter egg hunt and have their faces painted. 

Time: Gates open 17:30/ Easter hunt 18:30 / Film starts 19:15 - 21:00

Cost: R20 per person or R60 for a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children)

Happy Easter Pop up, Sunday 17 March 

Where: 10 Armagh Road, Parkview 

What: Silver Lining Vintage Clothing will be selling old school goodies at their Happy Easter Pop-Up shop! Vintage lovers will come across bags, belts, clothes and plenty more. 

Time: Check it out between 11:00 - 17:00. 

Cost: Free entry, items as priced

Serendipity Holiday fun, 26 - 29 March

Where: Serendipity, 48 Keyes Avenue, Rosebank

What: Located in a gorgeous garden environment, Serendipity offers fun-filled holiday programmes for kids, which include arts, crafts, baking, games and story time. 

Time: Tuesday to Friday are from 09h00 to 17h00

Cost: R150 per day (9am to 12:30pm) | R240 per long day (9am to 4:30pm) OR if you want to go hang out with your kids for an afternoon - R45 for the first child, R40 for the second child, R30 for every additional child. Adults free.

Otterlake Easter Festival, 28 - 31 March

Where: Seringveld Conservancy 

What: A music festival in aid of conservation. Expect artists like the Lyzyrd Kings, Valiant Swart, Piet Botha, The Stellas and The Stray Natives. Extra highlight on Saturday eve will be Otter Lake's 2nd traditional Easter Fire Celebration.

Time: Gates for the event will open daily from 12h00. 

Cost: From Thursday 28 to Sunday 31 March 2013 - R400 incl camping

The Rand Show 3013, 28 Mar 2013 - 1 Apr 2013

Where: Johannesburg Expo Centre, Nasrec, Johannesburg

What: A five-day Shopping Showcase and Entertainment Event over the Easter Holiday period. This year's programme is jampacked with diverse entertainment offerings, including helicopter rides, circus shows, a petting zoo with pony rides and a motoring extravaganza. 

Time: 10:00 - 19:00 daily

Cost: R100 per adult, R50 per child between 12 and 16 and pensioners, R20 per child between 6 and 12, free for children under 6.

Little Falls Country Easter Market, 29 Mar 2013 - 1 Apr 2013

Where: Little Falls Garden Centre, Riverside road

What: Daily Easter Egg hunts with loads of prizes, meet the Easter Bunny and the Easter Chicken! Giant slides and Indoor playgrounds for the little ones. Over 50 Arts & Crafts exhibitors, a deli with yummy food stalls, wine bar. 

Time: 09:00 - 17:00

Cost: Free

Easter Boosh, 31 March

Where: Mamma's Shebeen

What: A perfect entertainment option for those in-between: not a kid and also have no kids of your own yet. Head to Mamma's Shebeen in Greenside for some quality live music featuring solo acoustic guitarist Dave Baudains, the indie rock 'n rollers that make up The Anti Retro Vinyls, 'thrash folk' from Shortstraw, some of Bye Benco's indie, folk, ambient blues and plenty more from their friends. 

Time: 13:00 - late

Easter egg hunt and face painting, 31 March

Where: Ginko Restaurant, Parkview 

What: Get to Ginko Restaurant bright and early on Easter Sunday for a slice of Easter cake and an egg hunt. 

Time: 10:00

Easter Break Family Fun, till 30 April

Where: African Pride Irene Country Lodge

What: Upmarket hotels are normally not synonymous with children but African Pride's Irene Country Lodge prides themselves in being able to pamper the parents and spoil the children. This Easter, they've put together a fun-packed family getaway to celebrate autumn in style. The package includes luxury accommodation, breakfast buffets, special activities for kids, a complimentary interleading room for the little ones, complimentary use of day spa aqua facilities for parents, wi-fi and parking.

What: A special themed buffet, including dishes like pickled fish, hot cross buns and lots of chocolate eggs.

Cost: R185 per person, R95 per child between 6 and 12 years, kids under 6 eat free
