Eminem: How to get to the Joburg show

2014-02-27 12:10
Cape Town - The Mother City all but came to a standstill on Wednesday as Eminem fans made their way to the Cape Town stadium for the first South African leg of Eminem's Rapture 2014 tour.

Traffic in and around the CBD was backed up for hours, while MyCiti buses and taxis had to take alternative routes.

Fans heading to the stadium were encouraged to make use of public transport and were given free MyCiti rides on the presentation of a concert ticket. Many also braved the Fan Walk, despite the hot and humid conditions.

While those who were simply on their way home after work, cursed the mid-week concert and all the chaos it caused, those heading to the venue were treated to a magnificent show of lights, rap prowess and excellent musicianship all round.

The rapper evidently enjoyed the show himself as well, as he posted the following on Facebook on Wednesday night:

Eminem and his crew will be heading to Johannesburg next and are set to perform at the Ellis Park Stadium on Saturday, 1 March.

His supporting acts include local rapper, Jack Parow, as well as Action Bronson, a former chef from Queens in the US, now well-known for his slick rhymes.

The Gautrain will run a special night service on Saturday to accommodate, not only Eminem fans, but also revellers heading to the Santana concert in the FNB stadium and rugby fans making their way to Loftus Versfeld for Lions vs Bulls.

Park-and-ride facilities have also been made available at the following Gauteng malls:

- Cresta Shopping Centre
- East Rand Mall
- Cedar Square Shopping Centre
- Alberton City
- Melrose Arch Bus Stop
- Menlyn Shopping Centre
- Clearwater Mall

Should you want to make use of this facility, take your Computicket ticket to indicated area. From there you will receive a colour coded wristband and be directed to the buses. Buses depart from 15h00. The FINAL buses will leave Park and Ride facilities no later than 15h30. The buses are stacked and once they are filled they will leave. Buses do a return trip and start leaving the stadium immediately after the concert.
