Joburg to rival Durban July event

2013-06-28 11:50
Johannesburg - Jozi will be hosting its very own Joburg July in direct competition with the high-status Durban July.

The Sowetan reports the Joburg event is set to have the same posh theme as the Vodacom Durban July, held annually in the KwaZulu-Natal coastal city.

Event organizer and spokesperson, Lucelle Chetty says many people miss the Durban July due to availability when it comes to the popular event.

“Basically there are a lot of people who don’t go down to Durban for the July because there are no flights or accommodation," said Chetty.

“We are giving them a chance to enjoy the horse racing event, same style, just in a different location,” she said.

The Joburg July will be hosted on 6 July at the Turrfontein Race Course, the very same day as the one in Durban.

Horse-racing will be the main order of entertainment for the day but those who attend can expect the usual luxurious food with Durban's esteemed event.  While Soul Candi's DJ Soul Sister and Beat Amy will
provide the entertainment.

However, unlike the Durban July that is known to be overflowing with celebrities, this event has not confirmed the who’s who that will be attending.

Executive Editor of Hello Johannesburg Magazine, Justyn Spinner said “We have lots of celebrities on our list that we hope will be coming, we just can’t confirm as yet because it is slightly difficult as a lot of the celebrities head to the Durban July.”

“We have a split-into-two set up, a classic area which cost R200 per person just for entry and they can buy their own food and drinks. The VIP area is sponsored by Provocative Vodka and it caters a full menu of food and drinks just for R1200.”
